  The Department of Radiation Oncology is a cornerstone of the University of Maryland Greenebaum Cancer Center UMGCC , providing the most advanced radiation therapies available anywhere. The department is a nationally recognized leader in research into new and better ways to treat cancer with radiotherapy. As a Radiation Therapist you'll be a part of one of the most innovative radiation oncology programs in the region, providing cutting edge therapies and individualized care to thousands of cancer patients each year. Our internationally recognized experts work together to offer hope to cancer patients through the latest approaches to prevention, detection and treatments of all types of cancers.You'll have the opportunity to work with state of the art treatment modalities such as IMRT and Stereotactic Radiotherapy while truly making a difference in our patient's lives.If you are committed to a team environment, highly motivated and welcome challenge possess strong clinical skills and the desire to deliver high-quality patient care, please consider a career with our Radiation Oncology Department.Qualifications1.Graduation from an AMA approved program in Radiation Therapy Technology or Radiologic Technology is required.2.Registration as a Radiation Therapy Technologist by the American Registry of Radiologic Technology ARRT is required.3.Licensure in Radiation Therapy Technology within the state of Maryland is required.4.An Associate of Science degree in Radiation Therapy Technology is preferred.5.A minimum of one year of clinical practice in Radiation Therapy is preferred.6.Knowledge of radiologic technology, radiation therapy, routine nursing procedures, radiation protection and safety procedures. General familiarity with dosimetry, mathematics/physics, anatomy and physiology.7.Knowledge of and ability to operate the various types of radiation therapy equipment, such as, linear accelerator and cobalt treatment units, general radiography equipment, simulators, block cutting equipment and personal computers.8.Ability to demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the patient population s served. Demonstrates knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and possesses the ability to assess data reflective of the patient's requirements relative to his or her population-specific and age specific needs. Provides the care needed as described in the unit/area/department policies and procedures. 9.Ability to lift patients and lead focus blocks of up to 250 lbs. with assistance , 80 of the time, and pushing/pulling/moving patients, approximately 50 of the time to move onto and off of the treatment table, via wheelchairs and/or stretchers.10.Ability to work with patients possessing potentially infectious disease using the appropriate �Universal Precautions,� and ability to work with ionizing radiation requiring observance radiation safety procedures.11.Effective verbal and written communication skills are required in order to work with patients, medical and nursing personnel.CB
