The Mid America Operations Team is currently accepting resumes for the position of Mechanic. This position will be based in the Southgate, MI area located at one of the facilities. The position will be primarily working directly at the Distribution Center. The fleet is mixed with both route step-vans (P-30's) 24' straight trucks as well as Volvo and International tractors. The Mechanic must provide their own small hand tools, while large shop tools provided by F/L (jacks, compressors, drive impact tools). This job is classified as heavy work. The mechanic is expected to identify and resolve all mechanical and electrical problems to minimize "down time". The work tasks will involve various physical demands to varying degrees. The mechanic should be able to perform job tasks without supervision. Key responsibilities include: Preventative Maintenance of all assets, Demand repairs as needed and Inventory control. Environmental compliance and controls. Attendance at local and region meetings. Completion of campaigns and field repairs. Support of other technicians in the area. Computer knowledge / E mail / WCMS knowledge a plus. Pay is from $20 to $24 DOE.
Must be able to pass DOT physical. Experience in the repair of Air Brakes, Drive train, suspension, engine, PM. Must be able to work independently and prioritize repairs in the fast paced environment. Must be willing to continuously improve and advance in skills. Work overtime as needed. Computer knowledge is a plus. This position may be required to work weekends and holidays. PHYSICAL/MENTAL REQUIREMENTS: Must be able to lift 70 pounds safely. Must be able to see (near acuity and far acuity). Must be able to reach upward, downward, and outward. Must be able to hear. Must be able to work in both outdoor and indoor seasonal conditions. Must be able to balance. Must be able to push/pull equipment. Must be able to read. Must be able to analyze/problem-solve complex technical problems. Must be able to manage multiple tasks simultaneously. Must be able to organize
