Description NORTHWEST FIRE RECRUITING FIREFIGHTERS!

All this month, Northwest Fire District is taking applications for its fire academy scheduled for spring of 2010!

Applicants must be at least 18 years old, have a high school diploma, GED, or higher degree; possess a valid driver’s license; be CPR certified by November 30, 2009; and be State or Nationally Certified Emergency Medical Technician or Certified Emergency Paramedic by Feb 22, 2010. Successful applicants must also have the physical ability to perform the job functions of a firefighter.

Northwest expects to hire 10-12 men and women to be trained and paid during a 14-week fire academy starting in April 2010, and plans to hire at least 10 graduates of that academy for full-time positions. Depending on the status of federal grants, an additional 14 positions could be filled over the next two years. Starting firefighters currently make an annual base pay of $39,457 plus overtime on to a 56/hour shift work week.

To apply, go to www.northwestfire.org select “Firefighter Recruitment” for a recruitment packet and a Candidate Physical Ability Test (Preparation Guide), and then go to the Careers/Employment for an Application packet; or pick up materials in person at the Northwest Fire District Administration Building. 5225 W. Massingale Rd. Tucson , AZ 85743, Mon.-Fri., 8:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m.

Northwest Fire District is the largest fire district in Arizona, serving 125,000 residents with 235 authorized full-time firefighter positions.
Requirements The fundamental reason this classification exists is to attend the Northwest Fire District Academy to learn general duty firefighter work. Incumbents are sent to the Fire Academy for training in firefighting methods, emergency medical services, fire code enforcement and prevention practices, salvage operations, public relations, physical fitness and associated topics to prepare for appointment as a Firefighter. After successful completion of the Fire Academy, employees may be appointed to the position of FIREFIGHTER.
