CAREER

Pharmaceutical brand managers rarely consider packaging as part of their marketing mix.  In most cases, pharma packaging decisions are made by manufacturing and packaging engineers based on cost and efficiencies.   Clinical trial sponsors often have a similar view point.  Although pharmaceutical packaging that promotes patient benefits has been around for a few years, most brand managers and clinical trial sponsors are completely unaware of the strong data that suggests that it can be a very effective tool to drive topline sales or increase clinical trial effectiveness - all by increasing adherence rates.

As the Senior Product Marketing Manager, you will serve as the champion to elevate the role packaging plays in the marketing mix primarily with marketing and other major decision making teams at key accounts.  As a thought leader in the external health care community, you are an expert in patient adherence & persistency, responsible for understanding the interactions that patients/consumers have with health care packaging at a deep level and for delivering these key patient insights to customers.  Most importantly, you will be responsible for securing a decision to implement adherence packaging and/or specialized delivery systems within targeted customers.

HOW YOU WILL IMPACT MWV

  • Create plans to penetrate, develop and grow strategic relationships with marketing peers at key accounts within the pharmaceutical, biotech, OTC, payor and clinical research industries

  • Assess the current situation and needs of each individual account or brand and assess the packaging solution or innovation

  • Create business plans to penetrate key accounts at strategic points of entry

  • Understand critical barriers to the role packaging plays in the marketing mix

  • Drive successful capture of business – work with customer marketing teams to arm them with necessary data to align internal stakeholders; work closely with MWV sales personnel to provide necessary data for deal closures

  • Design clinical and consumer research to gather data to overcome purchase barriers to packaging innovation;  design all research so learnings can be quickly scaled for national/global product launches

  • Work with customers to agree on strategic intent and tactical implementation of all pilot programs and study designs

  • Work with customer marketing teams to craft creative briefs for new packaging concepts based on patient needs

  • Work to maintain subject matter expertise and provide regular updates on market trends to key accounts as appropriate

  • WHAT YOU NEED TO SUCCEED

    • 8+ years experience working in the healthcare industry. At least 3 years of experience working on patient adherence programs.  Ideal experience will be from the pharmaceutical or health insurance industries.  Experience working for a adherence program vendor will be considered

    • Strong knowledge of the business issues surrounding poor patient compliance, adherence, and persistency

    • Must be able to present compelling value propositions to  a cross-section of people within an organization including senior level executives.  Field sales or business development experience strongly desired

    • Strong interpersonal talents and skills in building and leading teams and managing projects

    • Experience managing direct reports

    • Ability to create multiple hypotheses, gather and interpret data, conduct critical assessments, and present clear, concise conclusions and recommendations

    • Ability to work independently, solve problems, and see projects through to completion
