This position is responsible for supporting the development of and implementation of a company-wide safety culture through technical support, program development, and relationship building. The incumbent will be a contributing member of the ConAgra Foods Safety Leadership Team. This position will work with manufacturing facilities to enact programs that meet and exceed all applicable federal, state, and local health and safety regulations. Additionally, this position will ensure that the Company�s health and safety efforts are led by effective managers and that those leaders are given the proper tools, guidance and support to produce the desired results. The position will serve as the ConAgra Performance System Safety Pillar Leader in the assigned platform.
Position Responsibilities
Lead, direct and assist the work of the plant safety leaders to implement the ConAgra Key Concepts of Safety to build an operating culture that integrates safety with daily operations; reduces frequency and severity of injuries, reduces costs and develops a more productive, effective and safe workforce that is in compliance with all applicable standards and regulations.
Serve as resource to platform management during the development and implementation process of standard safety programs. Perform a platform-wide needs assessment and assign responsibility for actions to address identified needs.
Manage the health and safety regulatory programs within the assigned platform to include; compliance counseling; strategy development; participation in the assessment of site health & safety management, compliance and injury reduction programs; and best practice sharing.
Track, report, benchmark and trend safety data; conduct root cause and other analysis to reduce incidents; establish metrics and report results to management monthly and provide appropriate feed back and results to enterprise, platform and plant personnel.
Implement a standardized leading indicator record and reporting system for the tracking, documenting, classification, and analysis of injuries and illnesses with validated information streams.
Analyze similarities, differences, trends, culture, and business drivers of each location in the assigned platform in order to identify and eliminate or control factors that negatively influence safety.
Develop long-range plans for the company safety function, primarily at the platform level, and in such other administrative functions as needed or requested.
Work with the ConAgra Foods Safety Leadership Team to improve job performance and effectiveness of Company-wide safety processes and personnel.
Identify �Safety Best Practices� and communicate for implementation across all locations.
Review and update safety policies, procedures, and training to meet all regulatory updates in a timely manner.
Create positive and productive working relationships with operations managers while maintaining independent safety function.
Interacts with all levels of internal management and with external business partners to develop best practice solutions for workforce safety.
Work direction is given to other staff members and operations personnel in implementing responsibilities associated with managing a safety process.
Position Qualifications
Requires strong communication, presentation, and negotiation skills, 7 to 10 years industrial safety experience, and 5 to 7 years management experience.
Certification in occupational safety discipline (for example, Certified Safety Professional) is preferred
Possess an in-depth knowledge of federal, state, local and department-level health & safety regulations; implement policies and programs to protect workers and ensure compliance with applicable regulations
Experience in implementation of corporate EHS policies and plant specific programs
Possess a working knowledge of Environmental regulations
Possess a working knowledge of various occupational safety certification systems and voluntary programs
Understanding of the process and procedures of managing media and communications
Experience in being a change agent or leading significant change
Adept at developing relationships with key internal/external relationships
Accustomed to working with senior management
Deliver on the leading indicators and other metrics designed to drive outcomes, performance and a world class EHS program
Requires travel, up to 50%.
