This position represents a key role in our team, providing technical leadership on our most important programs. SUMMARY As Mechanical Engineer, provide design and analytical skills for the Mechanical Engineering Department at the CWCEC, San Diego facilities. Support the Department's activities in mechanical design, materials science, environmental testing, reliability and failure analysis. Work with a variety of other geographically-dispersed engineering disciplines to facilitate timely design, fabrication and deployment of subsystems products. RESPONSIBILITIES - Design experience with MIL ruggedized chassis / mechanicals for conduction cooled VME, cPCI or VPX subsystems a strong plus.
- Knowledge and experience with electro-mechanical and thermal design.
- Knowledge and experience with SolidWorks software tool for modeling mechanical design.
- Knowledge and experience with FlowTherm software tool for thermal analysis a strong plus.
- Ability to do hands-on development as required for both new designs, ECOs / sustaining.
- Mechanical design with new & existing products.
- Provide analysis and design in the following areas of electronics packaging: Mechanical design of complex aluminum frames and heat sinks, PWB design details and microstructure, adhesives and thermal interface materials, mechanical design of subsystem enclosures, thermal and structural design considerations, mechanical assembly drawings.
- Design and conduct experiments, collect data and interpret results, conduct analysis and write analysis and test reports. Capability to draw conclusions and reconcile differences between predicted and actual results.
- Support PWB design and analysis for high reliability rugged environments, including severe shock, vibration, and temperature extremes.
- Design and coordinate construction of test fixtures and equipment.
- Design documentation including mechanical requirements documentation for both catalog and NRE development.
- Strong communication skills with formal development process consciousness / knowledge.
EXPERIENCE - 5+ years electro-mechanical experience and possess a BS/MS degree(s).
- Strong technical knowledge of mechanical engineering principles to facilitate analysis on in-process designs.
- Experience with solid modeling for mechanical design using tools such as SolidWorks, Pro-E, AutoCAD etc.
- Working knowledge of FEA techniques.
- Experience with one or more of the following tools: Pro-Engineer, Pro-Mechanica, IcePack (CFD), CerVibe, Mentor would be a plus.
- Comfortable making presentations to design team for the purpose of internal design review.
- Must demonstrate excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
EDUCATION Candidates with BS/MSME and experience with chassis design/sheet metal experience are strongly preferred.
