Description Member of the Engineering Staff Software Development Engineer – Naval Communications Host Applications

DOMAIN:

  • Real-time, highly reliable graphical user interface, database, and telecommunications applications hosted on workstations, minicomputers, and/or microcontrollers.
  • Command/Control Subsystems /Systems of Naval Communications equipment using TCP/IP, UDP, and SNMP.

    DUTIES:

  • Methodologies: Under minimal supervision, uses Object Oriented software methodologies to accomplish assigned tasks. Uses OOA/OOD tools and the Unified Modeling Language (UML) to develop Use Cases, object models, sequence diagrams, and state diagrams.
  • Process: Uses SEI CMM and/or ISO 9000 compliant processes to execute assigned software tasks in a team environment.
  • Leadership:
  • Assigns technical tasks to members of small teams.
  • Reports task progress using written and oral communications.
  • Mentors junior engineers.
  • Planning: Estimates personal and team effort for assigned tasks.
  • Requirements Analysis: Analyzes Subsystem requirements and identifies Software Configuration Item and lower-level software component requirements.
  • Design: Defines Software Configuration Item component architectures.
  • Development: Develops real-time applications in object-oriented languages (Java experience preferred), HTML and .NET. Integrates developed software with non-developmental software under real-time operating systems on commercially available single board computers.
  • Integration and Test: Defines test plans/procedures and integrates and tests real-time embedded systems.
  • Tools: Uses minicomputer/microcomputer-based software development tools (e.g., I-Logix Rhapsody, Rational Rose, Rational ClearCase) to produce software and documentation compliant with project standards. REQUIREMENTS:
  • US Citizen, US Government Secret (or higher) Security Clearance desired.
  • BS, BA, or equivalent: Computer Science, or Electrical Engineering/Mathematics/Physical Science with substantial software coursework. MS degree desired.
  • Minimum 2 years related professional experience.
