Role Summary/PurposeEssential Responsibilities
Provide technical hands-on data support, maintenance and oversight of the Solaris, Linux and Veritas High Availability suite of products (Storage Foundation, Storage Foundation for Oracle RAC, VCS & VVR).
Ensure data management layer from a Veritas perspective is kept up to date in product lifecycle. Plan and execute upgrades of Veritas infrastructure as required.
Create strategy to leverage additional features of Veritas product suite such as wide-area clustering, remote snapshots, etc.
Support storage needs; Maintain appropriate fault-tolerant data management posture from Veritas perspective and formulate recommendations for improvement as needed.
Keep abreast of new technologies and maintain industry knowledge.
Provide hands-on support and maintenance for mission critical, high availability (24/7) database and application server environment.
Manage/Collaborate with GDC’s on new technology and day to day activities.
Qualifications/Requirements
A bachelor’s degree with a minimum of three years experience with Veritas Storage Foundation and Veritas Cluster Server in a large organization providing 24x7 production support and maintenance of mission critical databases or a High School diploma and a minimum of six years experience with the Veritas Storage Foundation and Veritas Cluster Server in a large organization providing 24x7 production support and maintenance of mission critical databases. * A minimum of three years of hands-on technical experience in the following areas:- Solaris 8, 9 or 10 administration including installation, configuration, patching, etc.- Red Hat Linux version 4 or higher administration including installation, configuration, patching, etc.- Veritas Storage Foundation and Veritas Cluster Server administration.- Management of SAN and NFS Storage using Veritas in a Solaris and Linux environment.- Backup and recovery of Oracle and Sybase databases.- Unix Shell Scripting Skills - Bourne or Korn shell is required.

Desired Characteristics
Strong working knowledge of Veritas Storage Foundation for Oracle RAC & Veritas Volume Replicator in a Solaris environment and Linux environment is strongly desired.* Conceptual understanding of Oracle9i and 10g in a Solaris environment.* Working knowledge of various virtualization technologies such as Virtuozzo, VMWare.* A Conceptual understanding of Oracle Real Application Clusters (RAC).* Database relocation and cloning.* Snapshot and replication technologies i.e. VVR, Veritas FlashSnap.* Installation and patching of Oracle software – RDBMS and CRS Clusterware.* Strong verbal and written communication skills.* Strong analytical capabilities and organizational skills.* Ability to quickly learn new systems, and business processes.* Ability to handle multiple projects and shifting priorities.* Familiarity with Sybase Adaptive Server Enterprise 12.5.* Experience working in a Financial Services organization.* Demonstrated troubleshooting experience in fine-tuning hardware, software, application and server performance issues in high-pressure situations.* Experience with EMC and/or Network Appliance Storage.* Proven track record in leading enterprise initiatives and making recommendations.* Plan, prioritize and manage projects while working with on-shore and off-shore GDC’s.* Knowledge of GE processes.
