What Litigation (NonAtty) contributes to CareFusion

Litigation is responsible for providing Legal advice, counsel and services in the area of litigation, including managing and resolving disputes, bringing affirmative actions, defending actions brought against the organization, facilitating alternative dis


What is expected of you for success in your role
  • Demonstrates advanced knowledge of litigation rules and dispute resolution techniques
  • Identifies and assesses business and basic legal risks and recommends course of action
  • Conducts and manages non-routine litigation and communicates accordingly
  • Collaborates and consults with appropriate constituents who are stakeholders in the matter
  • Develops and conducts basic training
  • Applies Employee Dispute Resolution/ Alternative Dispute Resolution tools to resolve routine disputes
  • Significant experience with either commercial or products liability litigation and significant experience with creditor bankruptcy & collection practice.

Accountabilities in this role
The Senior Litigation Paralegal is responsible for providing support in the area of litigation, including managing and resolving disputes, bringing affirmative actions, defending actions brought against the organization, facilitating alternative dispute resolution and preventing litigation.  This position is accountable for:
  • Analysis of subpoenas; works with counsel for third party to narrow the scope of subpoena
  • Fields discovery requests, gathers information, conducts interviews
  • Works with outside counsel to prepare budget and follows up to assure outside counsel is performing to budget
  • Prepares, maintains and monitors internal budget
  • Conducts legal research and uses independent judgment to analyze risk and strategy and summarizes findings
  • Identifies and escalates legal issues/risks as appropriate
  • Acts as a resource to other functions (technical labeling, Sourcing, marketing, R&D) on legal and company policies (trademarks, CDAs, BCCR, quality system) as necessary
  • Identifies opportunities for and conducts training on legal issues
  • Assists in managing and developing junior paralegal
 
Qualifications
 
  • Paralegal certificate required; advanced degree a plus
  • 5-10 years in related field preferred
  • Ability to work independently
  • Demonstrates advanced knowledge of commercial litigation and/or products liability
  • Must have significant experience with creditor bankruptcy & collection practice
  • International experience is a plus 
  • Must have excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, as well as an acute attention to detail
