The job exists in order to set-up, adjust, monitor and operate folder/gluer machinery and produce finished, glued product that meets specifications and expectations.
EQUIPMENT USED by PERSONS IN THIS POSITION:
Persons in this position adjust and operate folder/gluer machinery, glue application system machinery, in-line inspection device systems such as bar code scanners and glue line detection systems, window application machinery, corrugated carton sealing equipment and material handling systems, (conveyors). Persons in this position frequently use hand truck, material handling equipment in order to move pallets of product in and out of work station. Persons in this position continually use hand tools, such as assorted wrenches, screwdrivers, hammers/mallets, leverage devices etc. Persons in this position occasionally use bench grinders, bearing pullers, Dremel tools and sanding devices.
QUALITY RESPONSIBILITY:
This position is responsible for the following:
Machine adjustment and production of finished cartons in a manner than provides proper folding orientation, adequate adhesion properties and prevents product mixes.
A lapse in quality, (improper folding orientation, inadequate adhesion, mix or product damage) may cause customer grievance, lost management capacity and production capacity in recall, sort and inspection.
A lapse in quality may cause lost product and lost product value if the lapse results in a defect that cannot be repaired or compromises the customer’s marketing image.
Final product inspection and release of finished product to Inventory/Shipping.
Quality of product produced by the entire team assigned to the applicable Mechanic.
More experienced Mechanics may be assigned responsibility for training and overseeing the work of Mechanics and/or Catcher/Packers in training.
EXPERIENCE & SKILL REQUIREMENTS:
Six months adjustment or repair-type experience in a mechanical environment or two years of mechanical, trade school equivalency required.
Previous experience in the adjustment and operation of paperboard box folding/gluing machinery is preferred.
Without experience, approximately three months required to learn details of job duties and attain acceptable degree of proficiency on the simpler projects and equipment. Typically, greater than six months experience is required in order to attain acceptable level of proficiency on the more complex projects and equipment.
Must be capable of working independently after initial training period.
Must be able to handle frequent interruptions and re-formulation of plans.
Creativity and analytical ability desirable since a wide range of project type exists, and specific set-up directions for the entire range of possible projects do not exist.
Ability to vary work pace, including work rapidly, display initiative, perform detailed examinations and remain attentive to details.
Ability to concentrate amid distractions is preferred.
The ability to lead a team is required.
High school graduate preferred, (mechanical trade especially desirable), but education is not a prerequisite,
Ability to read and write English,
Ability to perform accurate arithmetic computations, (Addition, Subtraction, Multiplication & Division) can be demonstrated along with a mechanical background,
Basic computer competency is preferable,
Color discrimination preferable.
Must pass a drug screen and criminal background check.
