PHYSICIAN ASSISTANT
1 QUALIFICATIONS.
1.1 Be a graduate physician assistant qualified by academic and practical education to provide patient services as a physician extender under supervision of a physician.
1.2 Be a graduate of a PA educational program accredited by the Committee of Allied Health Education and Accreditation (CAHEA) on behalf of the American Medical Association.
1.3 Have and maintain certification as a physician assistant by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA).
1.4 Have at least 24 months of experience within the last 36 months.
2 SPECIFIC TASKS.
2.1 The Physician Assistant shall perform and provide medical examination and treatment as required by the MTF, Chief, Department of Primary Care and Community Medicine (DPCCM), or Counterpart, at each location. The Physician Assistant shall perform the services, which a military Physician Assistant with similar training and experience would be called upon to perform while in a similar duty assignment. The Physician Assistant shall be responsible for a regularly appointed clinic, compatible with workload and, in addition, provide immediate evaluation and management of emergent problems as they occur. All PAs shall have the capability to:
2.1.1 Collect and record, in proper format, medical and social historical data appropriate to the patient's condition.
2.1.2 Perform a general physical examination. Record the findings in proper format and determine medical qualification for various purposes.
2.1.3 Select the most appropriate diagnosis and treat in cases of uncomplicated common illnesses and injuries (refer when necessary):

2.1.4 Recognize those more complicated cases, initiate treatment (if appropriate), and refer to a higher level of medical expertise for diagnosis and/or treatment:

2.1.5 Plan and initiate proper treatment within the PA's defined privileges and the scope of practice of the facility.
2.1.6 Identify and report those situations and individual cases which have public health significance and carry out effective control measures.
2.1.7 Clearly communicate to other health personnel either orally or in writing the findings, diagnosis, and planned treatment regimen.
2.1.8 Stabilize and manage a patient in a medical or surgical emergency and/or transfer to physician care.
2.1.9 Determine appropriate means of evacuation of emergency patients, prepare patients for evacuation, and arrange for evacuation support.
2.1.10 Perform the following blocks: Digital, Local Infiltration, and Intercostal
2.1.11 Emergency procedures:

Dyshidrosis
Plantar warts
Instruct patient in prevention:
Infection, bacterial Infection, fungal
Infection, viral Immersion, foot
Treatment, ingrown toenail Treatment, paronychia

2.1.14 General surgical procedures:
Remove, reapply "wet‑to‑dry" dressing I&D Paronychia
Install and remove drain I&D Abscess
Perform scrub, glove and gown
Open sterile packing
Drape minor sterile field
Drape skin
Suture‑ligate bleeder
Ligate bleeder
Insert nasogastric tube
Set up 2‑bottle suction
2.1.15 Urological procedures:
Perform an adequate urinalysis to include recognition of RBC, WBC, and casts on microscopic exam, and use of dipstick for glucose and protein.
Stain and independently identify C.C. in urethral discharge
Catheterization ‑ urethral only
Instruct patient to collect acceptable non‑catheter urine
specimen for culture.
2.1.16 Maintain inpatient and outpatient medical records in accordance with MTF procedures.
