Earth Station Operations Technician

The scope of this job includes fabrication, installation, maintenance and repair of the radio frequency (RF) equipment used in large scale satellite downlink and uplink operations. Some supervision of entry level technicians is required. Assist in the training of entry level technicians on operations and procedures in the Earth Station.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Performs fabrication and installation of wave-guide assemblies, cables, and fiber-optic systems, and follows procedures to check for RF leakage in wave guide paths.
• Performs component level troubleshooting and repair of High-Power Amplifiers (HPAs), fiber-optic systems, up converters, down converters, RF switching units, Antenna Control Units (ACUs), Low-Noise Amplifiers (LNAs) and Low-Noise Block Down converters (LNBs).
• Performs maintenance and repair on large transmit/receive and receive-only satellite antenna systems.
• Uses the following types of test equipment: spectrum analyzer, network analyzer, signal generator, multi-meter, fiber-optic test set and RF detectors.
• Composes purchase orders, shift reports, outage reports and maintenance-action forms.

Associate Degree in Electronics and at least 4 years earth station systems experience.
