Aircraft Mechanic – Aerospace Maintenance Summary

BACKGROUND Military aircraft are used to fly hundreds of missions each day for transport, patrol, and flight training. They need frequent servicing to remain safe and ready to fly. Aircraft mechanics inspect, service, and repair helicopters and airplanes.

Responsibilities Aircraft Mechanic – Aerospace Maintenance

Duties and Responsibilities

For the Aircraft Mechanic include but are not limited to

• Maintains aircraft, support equipment (SE), and forms and records.
• Performs production supervisor, flight chief, expediter, crew chief, support, aero repair, and maintenance functions.
• Service and repair helicopter, jet, and propeller aircraft engines.
• Inspect and repair aircraft wings, fuselages (bodies), and tail assemblies.
• Service and repair aircraft landing gear.
• Repair or replace starters, lights, batteries, wiring, and other electrical parts.

Requirements for Aircraft Mechanic – Aerospace Maintenance

Please be aware this is a Part Time position and requires Military enlistment.

Special Requirements

• Enlistment in the Air National Guard
• Normal color vision
• US citizen / Naturalized
• 17-40 years old
• Minimum of High School Diploma or G.E.D. 
• Good Physical Condition / Health
• Additionally, you can only have limited law violations and must pass a background check. All of this is performed as part of the screening process before you can actually join the Air Guard.

Training Provided

Job training consists of 3 to 17 weeks of classroom instruction, including inspection and repair of aircraft engines and equipment. Training length varies depending upon the specialty. Course content typically includes

• Engine disassembly and repair.
• Repair of hydraulic, fuel, and electrical systems.
• Repair of aluminum, steel, and fiberglass airframes and coverings.
• Further training occurs on the job and through advanced courses.

Physical Demands

• Some specialties require moderate to heavy lifting.
• Normal color vision is required to work with color-coded wiring.
