TWO (2) LABORATORY TECHNICIANS NEEDED!
General description of position
The laboratory technician will assist in research, process development, and plant production personnel in conducting qualitative and quantitative chemical and physical tests on various solids, liquids and gasses. In addition they will prepare various liquid and solid samples for use in quality control and/or R&D projects in accordance with written and verbal instructions using generally recognized good laboratory practices for maintenance of both quality and safety.
Duties and responsibilities
v Set up and conduct tests and chemical experiments using various “wet" or instrumental tools such as pH or conductivity meters, ICP, x-ray spectroscopy and so forth. Initial familiarity with these particular tools is not a requirement, but a demonstrated ability to learn, given appropriate guidance and training, is.
v Calibrate and maintain various analytical tools and instruments used by laboratory and plant production personnel.
v Maintain accurate written notebook records for all laboratory processes, experimental trials and routine instrument maintenance and calibration tasks.
v Write basic technical reports and prepare graphs and charts as necessary to further document laboratory work.
Requirements
Skills and abilities
v Knowledge of basic principles of chemistry, chemical composition and properties of chemicals along with their major interaction pathways. Includes a sensitivity to key danger signs.
v Ability to accurately and independently prepare solutions or dilutions in accordance with written specifications based on commonly used units such as weight percent, volume percent, mole percent and normality.
v Basic skills with arithmetic through introductory algebra. Working familiarity with hand calculators and at least one common computer software tool for number manipulation such as MS Excel.
v Clear understanding of the structure and content of the English language, including the meaning and spelling of words, rules of composition and grammar.
v Ability to communicate information and ideas to others both verbally and in writing in such a way that they can clearly understand.
Education and experience (minimum)
v A completed two year degree from a technical training school or community college program in applied science or science related technology, or
v A minimum of three years successful experience working in a laboratory environment having similar responsibilities and skill requirements to those described above.
