Sr. Network Engineer – Network Monitoring Manager
Requested Start Date: 11/23/09
Length of Engagement: 6 months
Hours Per Week: 20 to 40

We are seeking a Sr. Network Engineer with advanced experience in implementing, configuring and supporting a Network Monitoring System (NMS). The engineer will work with IT and Systems Engineering Staff to implement a new system that will centrally monitor multiple organizational wide networks:
All 5 networks reside on different subnets and are not visible to each other.
Duties and Responsibilities:
· Provide a detail implementation project plan outlining timeline and deliverables.
· Create visual management maps of the network within the NMS application indicating devices and network status
· Creating custom alerts and notifications for applications and network devices
· Configuring application analysis tools; NetScout InfiniStream
· Configuring a central sys log server for ease of log management
· Implementing a configuration management tools to provide backups and changes to device configurations.
· Personalized/Group Monitoring; i.e. Grouping application server and only allowing the application team to view their systems and obtain reports.
· Setup and configure NetFlow Monitoring
· Setup and configure VoIP traffic Monitoring
· Create and provide installation documentation of all products being installed and configured.
· Provide training to IT Staff.
Requirements
Minimum Qualifications:
All candidates must meet the minimum qualifications in order to be considered for this position.
· Extensive experience fully implementing NMS tools in a production environment
· Senior level network engineering experience architecting and managing complex production network environments, including managing multiple subnets and virtual network configurations
Experience:
· Experience in configuration and management of NMS tools such as What’s UP Gold
· Premium, Solarwinds Enterprise Suite, Castle Rock, Kiwi, etc
· Expert level knowledge of working and managing complex network environments with various virtual network configurations
· Experience with SONET, CISCO Ethernet switches and routers
· Experience in setting up and configuring SNMP/MIB captures and analysis
· Experience in implementing and configuring NMS tools in an enterprise environment
· Several years experience working in network environments as a senior level engineer.
· Identify, troubleshoot and resolve network issues
· Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work
· Able to communicate/educate all levels of understanding
Knowledge of:
· Knowledge of CISCO appliances, routers, switches
· Knowledge of Alcatel-Lucent SONET nodes
· Knowledge of GarrettCom and Riverstone switches
· Principals and practices of change management
· Strong knowledge of configuring NMS tools to effectively and proactively monitor network appliances, severs, applications and other devices connected to a network.
Highly Desired:
· Experience working in SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition) environment
· Specific experience configuring an NMS to centrally monitor multiple networks
· Experience configuring Riverstone and GarrettCom switches and routers
· Specific installation and configuration of each of the following: What’sUP Gold, Castle Rock, Solarwinds, Kiwi, Log-a-Lot, and Splunk
· CCNA Certified
