Description

Brief Description

Responsible for assisting the Compression team in maintaining all compression systems at the uplink facility while learning the various responsibilities and troubleshooting techniques of digital audio, video, and RF. Works with other departments to solve problems with video quality, encryption and transmission problems. Must be detail oriented and willing to work shifts.

 

Duties and Responsibilities

Insure effective monitoring, troubleshooting, maintenance, and system verification of all compression systems. Troubleshoot, repair and replace defective equipment to backup primary compression systems without assistance. Switch defective equipment to backup. Troubleshoot service outages. Complete all assigned projects with little or no supervision. Provide training to Engineering Technicians (I & II) in all aspects of Compression systems. Support Engineering Technicians (I & II) in completing assigned tasks. Supervise shift when supervisor is not available. Complete preventative maintenance as assigned. Assist in design, configuration, and troubleshooting all facets of the DBS networking systems and all related facets of the compression systems. Maintain basic knowledge of Windows operating systems and TCP/IP networking systems. Advanced understanding of skills relating to Ethernet, TCP/IP, and wiring methods. Meet deadlines and complete assignments in a timely manner while maintaining quality standards. Develops and updates Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) for all Compression equipment functions.

 

Requirements

 

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

Bachelor's degree (B. A.) from four-year College or university; or two years related experience and/or training; and two plus years of experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

  

SKILLS

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating/maintenance/procedure instructions. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers, employees of organization and equipment vendors. Requires basic knowledge of networking or computer related skills including familiarity with Windows operating systems and TCP/IP.
