Spherion is seeking an enthusiastic, positive minded and detail-oriented Food Lab Technician to be a part of our Unilever team in a great working environment located in Covington, TN.
The Lab Technician is primarily responsible for conducting sensory testing. On a weekly basis, may amount to nearly 30 tests. Position also supports testing conducted at Unilever Third parties located locally, regionally and nationally. This individual will report to the CTI Manager. He or she will work cooperatively as part of the CTI Sensory Laboratory technical team. She or he will support the CTI Scientists and will act to maintain functional excellence for R&D customers. RESPONSIBILITIES (include but may not be limited to): Execution of testing using Compusense, review of test documents, set-up testing materials in accordance with test protocol, preparation of test samples, execution of testing, analysis of data using Compusense, preparation of results using Word and Excel. Sanitizing the lab, maintain and calibrate equipment and maintain an orderly and organized work environment. Additionally, maintain department files, inventory and order supplies, order groceries for testing, make minor repairs to the lab, manage Facilities in making major repairs to the lab and conduct safety inspections. Managing check requests to ensure sufficient funding to reimburse Unilever Third Parties. He or she must be skilled in food preparation and food safety handling and, must also be skilled in laboratory practices and experienced in use of basic laboratory equipment (scales, thermometers, graduated cylinders and timers). Support a full service operation of the Sensory Laboratory, contribute to Capital Budget planning and execution and provide general assistance to the CTI Professional and Technical staff.
REQUIREMENTS (Experience and Skills)
-Chemistry background a plus -High School Diploma or GED. Certification in Food Safety Handling preferred. -2-4 years experience in food preparation plus Advanced Scientific training -Experienced in use of basic laboratory equipment (scales, thermometers, graduated cylinders and timers) required. -Knowledge of Word, Outlook, Power Point, Excel. -Experience in use of Compusense Five and Arcs/Arms preferred. This individual must be detailed oriented, organized, flexible, team oriented, able to follow instructions and receive feedback and adhere to established protocols. She or he must possess excellent Math skills, strong communication skills, be mechanically adept and be fluent in the English language. Ability to respond constructively in emergencies is also expected. Position is expected to consume a variety of foods and ingredients.
