Engineer I CAS

EchoStar isseeking an Engineer I to provide exceptional technical and operational systemsupport for a mix of computing hardware and software platforms.  The role of this candidate is to implementand maintain server infrastructure supporting a diverse set of applications andto provide AIX, Linux, and Windows systems administration across multipleplatforms.  This position will workclosely with various Engineering and Operation teams in all phases ofdevelopment, implementation, and operations.

Duties and Responsibilities

Dailysystem support and operation activities which will include, but is not limitedto the following:

• Monitor and manage IBM pseries, Compaq Alpha, and Intel-based servers.
  • Manage application environments to minimize outages and service interruptions.  Quickly troubleshoot problems and analyze failures to minimize outages and service interruptions.  Communicate problems and solutions both verbally and in written form to peers and management
  • Maintain network monitoring and control tools
  • Work with various engineering teams to deploy new features and upgrades
  • Proactively identify and recommend updates to software, hardware, or architecture as necessary before reaching capacity limitations
  • Develop and implement shell scripts to manage operational and administrative needs
  • Manage multiple projects simultaneously and complete them on schedule
  • Create and maintain technical documents and standard operating procedures

Skills and Qualifications

Given the mission critical nature of ourapplications you must have the ability to work well under pressure and possessa desire to work in a fast-paced and continually growing environment.  Theskills listed below are representative of the experience, knowledge, and skillsrequired:

• Associate Degree in Computer Science, Computer/Management InformationSystems, Engineering or equivalent experience

  • Two to three years of experience performing general Linux and Windows system administration including installation, maintenance, upgrade, configuration, performance tuning, troubleshooting and resolving operating system issues    

  • Experience with one or more of the following: C, UNIX shell scripting, Perl, Python, or similar languages
  • Experience with installing, configuring, and administering web applications
  • Working knowledge of TCP/IP
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills; capable of training users in applications
  • Must be self-motivated and able to work effectively both alone and as part of a team
  • Provide on-call support to address critical issues and emergencies as they arise
  • Some travel may be required

Education Desired:

Bachelor’sdegree in Computer Science, Computer/Management Information Systems, or Engineeringor equivalent experience, plus two or more years work experience.
