College Counselor

We are seeking a College Counselor for the K12 International Academy to support students and families in their educational experience. Reporting to the Headmaster, the Counselor will provide support to students and Teachers to resolve difficulties that impede student learning and to develop student plans meet future goals. The Counselor is especially focused on supporting the long terms plans for the students in the area of college and career planning. K12 is creating a high touch approach to educational support and expect this staff to have superior customer service skills and a commitment and desire to provide the best experience possible for their students and families.

The College Counselor will help perform the following duties:

• Provide support, counseling and ongoing guidance to students in grades 7-12
• Develop a strong relationship with colleges and universities to assist with the transition and acceptance of K12 International Academy students into the post secondary realm
• Facilitate college information sessions, visitations and assist with application process
• Coordinate information services on testing initiates for college entrance (PSAT, AP, ACT, SAT, etc.)
• Train, implement and maintain Naviance – K12 workspace tool
• Assist with addressing student concerns (e.g. excessive absences, at-risk behavior, mental/physical health, family/peer relationships, etc.)
• Communicate high expectations and show an active interest in student progress
• Maintain graduation plan for students in grades 9-12
• Assist in placement team with transcript review and academic decisions
• Collaborate with peers
• Travel as needed to support student achievements and attend meetings

• Bachelor's degree and equivalent work experience
• Appropriate certification for grades 9-12
• Demonstrated problem solving ability
• Excellent communication skills
• Demonstrated successful experience in working in a demanding, high performance work environment
• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word and Outlook
• Experience using search engines (Internet) for research projects and student information system and/or other type of database preferred
• Experience using Naviance, a student information system or similar type database preferred
• Flexible schedule with the ability to travel

Desired Attributes:

• Experience with distance learning in a customer service setting or environment
• Familiarity with content or learning management systems
• Guidance Counselor endorsement
• Advanced work in counseling and administration
• Experience with local, state and federal laws and reporting
• Experience in a chart school environment
