POSITION SUMMARY

Shift: varies

 

Performs routine and specific mechanical duties such as the set up, repair, change over, detailed preventive maintenance, and modifications of packaging equipment.

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 

1. Performs start up, debugging, change over, and tuning of packaging machinery in accordance with production requirements to ensure proper operation of machinery.  Follows safety precautions to prevent product contamination and injury to self and others. 

2. Provides emergency repair of packaging equipment and troubleshoots electrical, mechanical, and pneumatic systems and controls. 

3. Performs preventive maintenance for all packaging equipment to ensure packaging equipment is performing at optimum levels.   

4. Identifies, designs, fabricates, and installs minor modifications to improve system performance using machine tools and precision manual equipment.   

 

 

Requirements

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES 

1. Knowledge typically acquired through a high school education, including the ability to ready and understand a variety of job related instructions and documents, perform practical application of mathematical calculations to solve specific problems, and use many types of equipment.  

2. Must have technical knowledge and mechanical aptitude to perform start up, debugging, change over, tuning, and repair of packaging machinery, as demonstrated by passing Standard Timing Model with a score of at least 50%,  typically acquired through 3-5 years of experience in a production maintenance shop of a  manufacturing facility.  Must demonstrate competencies established for this level as specified in the Engineering competency model, including drawing, machine shop, welding, basic electric pneumatic, and hydraulic competencies.  

3. Must be able to stoop, crouch, kneel, and occasionally move up to 60 lbs. in order to start up, repair, debug, change over, tune, and maintain package machinery. 

4. Must have the manual dexterity to manipulate and assemble small objects and pieces of machinery.
