Patient Account Representative
This position will be responsible for:
Billing
Researching and analyzing delinquent third-party payer claims, determining reimbursement problems, and adjusting and resubmitting claims by performing the following duties:
Researches and analyzes third-party payor claims, such as Medicare, Medicaid, Tricare, Managed Care, Works Compensation, and various commercial insurance; verifies patient eligibility, adjusts and resubmits claims.
Researches and prepares billings for initial electronic claims submissions.
May teach, train and guide other personnel in claim preparation.
Responds by telephone or correspondence to inquiries from patients/third party payers; explains insurance coverage to patients, researches problems and corrects errors.
Posts and receipts payments from patients and third-party payers and reconciles input to ledgers and reports.
Maintains statistical data and records; may prepare regularly scheduled or special reports on medical claims.
May perform data entry, answer telephones, and assist with walk-in inquiries.
Follows established departmental policies, procedures, and objectives, continuous quality improvement objectives, and safety, environmental, and/or infection control standards.
Collections:
Follows up on all site accounts by usage of phones, appeal letters, or any other means in order to ensure that thse precedures are paid.
Communicates with the billers consistent dentials and EOBs and informs billers the correct way to bill in order to ensure that the reason for the dential is not repeated.
Keeps abreast of all outstanding A/R for each site and recognizes when there is a particular site/payer that has ceased collecting monies and investigates and finds ouf the reasons why.
Knows all the proper reimbursements for the different payers (i.e case rates, capitation, etc)
Post payments on a daily basis.
Ensures strict confidentiality of financial records.
Requirements
Education/Experience:
HS diploma and/or GED with minimum 2 yrs related exp and/or technical training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Healthcare background highly recommended
- Knowledge of billing/collections software (Intergy, Varis, Impac, Infopoint)
- MS Internet Explorer Internet Software
- MS Office 2000, 2003 , XP Word Processing software
- MUST be proficient in Excel (assessment test required with interview)
