Financial Management Technician
The finance management technician performs duties specific to the following financial management processes: budgeting, disbursing, and accounting for government funds; payment for travel and commercial vendor services; pay support of soldiers and foreign national employees; and internal control operations.
Some of your duties as a Financial Management Technician may include:
- Receive and post funding, commitment and obligations documents to accounting and budget systems
- Receive and process treasury checks for payment
- Maintain disbursing files and prepare periodic financial reports
- Receive, review, prepare and compute travel vouchers
- Receive, review, and process pay documents
- Receive and review contracts, invoices and receiving reports
- Prepare payment vouchers in accordance with various government regulations
- Perform duties as cashier

Job training for a Finance Specialist requires nine weeks of Basic Training, where you'll learn basic Soldiering skills, and nine weeks of Advanced Individual training with classroom instruction, including practice in accounting techniques. Some of the skills you'll learn:
- Accounting principles and procedures
- Preparation and maintenance of financial reports and budgets
- Statistical analyses in order to help you interpret financial data
- Computation of pay and deductions
Skills
Helpful attributes include:
- Interest in mathematics, statistics, bookkeeping and accounting may be helpful
- Ability to work with numbers
- Interest in operating office machines such as computers
- Interest in work that requires accuracy
Responsibilities
Advanced level Finance Specialist provides guidance, supervises and trains other soldiers within the same discipline. As an advanced level Finance Specialist, you may be involved in:
- Verify accuracy of commitment registers, accounting documents
- Verify accuracy of data bases, disbursing reports and documents
- Verify accuracy of travel vouchers, vendor payments; and pay documents
- Establish and maintain pay accounts on foreign nationals
Civilian Related
There isn't an office anywhere that doesn't need a highly qualified financial administrative employee. Positions such as bookkeeper, accountant or audit clerk will benefit greatly from your Army training as a Finance Specialist.
