Intercultural Overview:
Intercultural Family Services, Inc. (IFSI) is a non-profit, health and human services agency that has been in existence since 1979. Since then, IFSI has evolved into a family focused, multicultural and multipurpose agency that provides a variety of public health and human services primarily designed to strengthen and preserve families. The IFSI mission is to stabilize, strengthen and untie families, individuals and diverse communities through an array of culturally competent services, using public and private partnerships.
Intercultural Family Services, Inc.(Intercultural) seeks a HIV/AIDS Educator that is certified to test and counsel for HIV.
The HIV/AIDS Educator will schedule and conduct presentations and discussion sessions related to Preventing HIV/AIDS through Community Education (PHACE). General program responsibilities include recruitment of women and youth groups to participating in education, counseling, testing, and referral services.
Responsibilities:
1. Conducts outreach and recruitment of youth and at-risk populations utilizing canvassing tactics through local schools, neighborhood, community, recreational and health centers, churches, local media, etc.;
2. Participates in intensive training on intervention curriculum;
3. Facilitates evidence-based workshops with target populations;
4. Prepares and maintains documentation for various activities such as Group Level Inventions (GLIs) and outreach;
5. Performs counseling and testing;
6. Conducts pre and post testing interventions using evidenced-based curricula;
7. Administers attitudinal and behavioral change surveys program participants;
8. Conducts group participant evaluations regarding the effectiveness of presentations;
9. Maintains systematic notes of group activities, outreach activities, training sessions, workshops, and progress; and
10. Performs other duties as assigned within the parameters of the program.
Requirements
Qualifications:.
· One to two years experience working with the health education programs or AIDS prevention organization.
· Certification in HIV counseling and testing.
· Access to a car and a clean driver's license also required.
· Able to work evenings and weekends.
· Knowledge of local public health or social service system preferred.
· Familiarity with local neighborhoods sites of congregation.
· Ability to work within and to relate to a multicultural, multiracial work environment.
· Proficiency in the use of computers, specifically MS Office.
