Description RemX is currently seeking a Litigation Legal Assistant for a client in Richmond.  This permanent position has a starting salary of $45,000.00/yr and will pay more depending on experience.

 

Job Responsibilities:

  • Interview new clients, either in person or by telephone, gathering all data necessary to complete “Blue Notes" identifying and establishing liability, coverage, damages and collateral source coverage
  • Demonstrate a client-first attitude by being tactful, friendly, courteous, helpful and sensitive to clients’ needs 
  • Input data into Client Profiles® database
  • Set up file, organizing all documents and records in appropriate subsections
  • Assign investigation in accordance with Attorney/Claims Consultant instructions
  • Interpret and apply laws, rules, and regulations relative to the work
  • Prepare correspondence to insurers, medical providers, courts and employers.  Requires knowledge of Word XP and iManage as well as clear and concise written expression including proper punctuation, grammar and spelling
  • Track receipt of accident reports, investigation requests, medical records, report and bills, employment records, insurance policies, lien itemizations and any other documentation necessary to process a personal injury claim
  • Analyze and/or summarize accident reports, medical records and reports, employment records including timesheets and payroll records, insurance policies, EOB’s and lien documents and to resolve any inconsistencies or discrepancies
  • Maintain monthly client contact to update medical condition and treatment status as well as provide good client service and promote confidence in the firm’s services
  • Compute medical bills, wage loss, liens and health insurance payments and write-offs
  • Answer phones for supervisor and co-workers
  • Prepare demand package for submission to insurance carriers
  • Enter data for payment of case expenses
  • Research evidence and verify facts; finding related cases, laws, and legal articles
  • Checking legal forms for accuracy
  • Summarize legal documents (i.e. depositions)
  • Summarize medical records
  • Prepare the legal arguments, draft pleadings and motions to be filed with the court, obtain affidavits, and assist attorneys during trials
  • Maintain attorney calendar scheduling meetings, depositions, pre-trial conferences, etc. in accordance with jurisdictional timelines
Requirements

General Requirements: 

  • College education, paralegal training or equivalent work experience in the legal field

  • Knowledge of personal injury law

  • In depth knowledge of legal terminology and principles

  • Strong interpersonal skills for dealing with clients, staff and outside agencies/vendors

  • Ability to use judgment, tact, and discretion

  • Ability to work as a team

  • Good telephone etiquette

  • Detail oriented and well-organized

  • Data entry skills (Use computer software to retrieve, organize, and index various information)

  • Maintain an active caseload of 35-45 litigation cases

  • The ability to prioritize and work under a tight schedule

  • The ability to analyze legal documents for accuracy
