There are currently two (2) project openings for Nursing Consultant, Institutional within the Ambulatory Surgical Centers Project in the Office of Investigation and Inspection, Division of Health Systems Quality Assurance in Tumwater.  This project and the positions within it are funded through September 30, 2010.

Primary Duties 

These positions support the Departments mission by providing professional and technical nursing expertise in conducting inspections and investigations for Medicare certified ambulatory surgery centers.  Major duties include gathering evidence through interviews, document review and observation of operations; documenting, organizing and analyzing data for relevance; preparing final reports, including recommendation of licensure or certification.  Also assists customers with inquiries regarding compliance or other issues and assists with procedural quality improvement process.

Required Qualifications

• Licensed as a Registered Nurse in the State of Washington.
• A Bachelor’s degree in nursing and a Master’s degree in nursing, healthcare quality improvement/management, management/business/public administration, or human factors engineering.
• Five (5) or more years of clinical experience in the health care industry (hospital, ambulatory care, dialysis, rehabilitation, psychiatric, community based or public health settings).

Desired Qualifications

• Previous demonstrated experience in the regulatory, survey/investigation or accreditation environment.
• Knowledge of state laws, or federal regulations related to Ambulatory Surgery Centers
• Ability to use computer word-processing, input data into databases related to work activities, and communicate verbally and in writing with others, including in email systems.

Conditions of Employment

• Willing and able to legally operate a state or privately owned vehicle OR provide alternative transportation.
• Willing and able to travel up to 70% of the time within the state of Washington which may include overnight, evenings, and weekends. 
• Willing and able to occasionally work in excess of forty (40) hours per week.  This position is exempt from overtime.
