Description Position summary:
Reports to the manager, career technical training.  Responsible for providing instruction to students within existing Job Corps training curricula in compliance with government and management directives.

Essential Functions:
  1. Plan and conduct training in designated areas of instruction.
  2. Motivate and counsel students in areas of behavior, training, personal problems or study habits; coordinate with residential advisors, counselors and other staff as necessary to resolve issuers affecting student training.
  3. Control use of equipment and supplies; make minor repairs; recommend purchases.
  4. Assist the career development specialist with job development and to maintain sufficient linkages in the community to ensure training related work-based learning and placement opportunities are consistently available to students.
  5. Participate in the P/CAP student evaluation process; enter case notes ad employer certifications earned; and update student progress with the attainment of vocational goals utilizing the CIS system.
  6. Working closely with counselors and career development specialists, ensure students are scheduled into transition readiness classes and for transition panels in accordance with established timeliness.
  7. Assist students to develop and implement job search plans; work the career development specialists to identify potential jobs, schools, military, or other training program placement opportunities for separating students.
  8. Conduct follow-up with separated students in accordance with established timeliness.
  9. Maintain student TARs in accordance with established policies and procedures; develop and maintain consistently current vocational progress reports; administer and correct tests; maintain accurate attendance reports.
  10. Assist with the process of evaluating center services for students; participle in the development of the career development and career transition pans; recommend changes in curricula; develop lesson plans as needed to ensure the effective delivery of training.
  11. Participate in the development and implementation of VST plans as required.
  12. Participate in student employability programs and activities.
  13. Promote the development of positive social skills through modeling appropriate behaviors and intervening when inappropriate behaviors are observed.
  14. Maintain accountability of students and property; adhere to safety practices.
Requirements

Industry recognized certifications or licenses in area of instruction required.  Bachelor's degree in related field with teaching certification or experience preferred.  Three to five years of experience in industry or related teaching may be considered in lieu of formal education requirements.  Excellent verbal and written communication skills.  Computer literate with experience working with database, word processing, and email software.  Unless waived by management, valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
