Description
The Scripps Research Institute is currently seeking a Maintenance Mechanic II for its Florida facility. Will build and/or install shelves, cabinets and doors; replace ballasts, electrical outlets, light switches and bulbs; inspect sinks, drinking fountains, toilets, emergency showers and eye washers; install and change locks in drawers, cabinets and doors; replace floor and ceiling tiles; patch and paint walls; set up and maintain laboratory hoods and incubators; move equipment, freezers and furniture; change water and air filters, vacuum pump filters, exhaust fans and belts; inspect fire extinguishers to ensure proper operation; respond to emergency calls and equipment alarms; may be cross-trained in boiler room operations; and other duties as assigned. Will function on the Crisis Management Team and participate in a rotating emergency on-call schedule; participate in emergency shutdowns and planned or unplanned overtime may be required.

Requirements
Requires: High school diploma or equivalent and a minimum of 4 years experience in general maintenance or construction (autoclave repair experience preferred) or equivalent training/experience. Valid Florida driver's license required. Good verbal and communication skills. Ability to troubleshoot mechanical and electrical systems; to use hand and power tools; to lift and carry heavy objects up to 50 lbs; and to work under time constraints. Must be familiar with MS Office, Windows and facilities software programs.
