Janet Wattles Center, Inc., is a private, not-for-profit corporation, incorporated under the laws of the State of Illinois, and is recognized by the I.R.S. as a 501 (C) (3) corporation.
The Benefits Specialist is responsible for conducting high quality services in accordance with agency policies and procedures. The Benefits Specialist is responsible for assisting consumers obtain Social Security Income/Disability and Medicaid and if consumer is eligible Medicare. The Benefits Specialist is expected to meet or exceed established productivity standards, apply for public aid and social security, maintain contact and act as liaison with the Disability Determination Services Bureau, Social Security Administration, and the Department of Human Services.

· Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work or related field
· Ability to manage multiple activities with attention to detail and to delegate effectively
· Flexibility in daily activities
· Excellent written and oral communications skills
· Strong knowledge of computers and software
· Understands working collaboratively
· Comfort learning new systems including political and social issues.
· Familiar with community resources
Benefit Summary
SALARY DEDUCTIONS:
As required by law, the Center makes deductions for federal and state withholding taxes, according to the employee's instructions on form W-4. Deductions are also made for FICA, as required by law. At the employee's request, additional deductions may be made for health insurance, dental insurance, tax deferred annuity, whole life insurance, credit union, and United Way Contributions.
LIFE INSURANCE & ACCIDENTAL DEATH & DISMEMBERMENT:
The life insurance policy is equivalent to your annual salary rounded to the next $1,000 with an additional $10,000 attached to the policy. For example, an employee making $22,105 would have a life insurance policy for $33,000. The Accidental Death & Dismemberment policy is the amount equivalent to your annual salary rounded to the next $1,000. The benefit amount would be dependent upon the nature of the accident. Both policies would take effect the first of the month following six months of employment.
ELIGIBILITY: Full-time employees working a minimum of 30 hours per week.
SHORT TERM/LONG TERM DISABILITY:
Disability coverage would take effect the first of the month following six months of employment. The policies pay 66.66% of your salary if there is an approved disability claim.

PENSION PLAN:
The pension plan is offered through Mutual of America. Eligibility occurs upon completion of one-year full-time employment. If you've had prior service with a nonprofit organization within the past three years of JWC employment, or you have had a prior Mutual of America Plan, this benefit may take effect sooner. When eligible, Janet Wattles Center will contribute 5% of your monthly gross income to the pension plan. Employees will be fully vested upon completion of three years of employment.
FLEXIBLE SPENDING ACCOUNT:
Flexible Spending Accounts allow employees to save tax dollars on money you spend for dependent day care and medical services by paying for these expenses with pre-tax dollars.
EMPLOYEE ASSISTANCE PROGRAM:
Janet Wattles Center offers a voluntary and professional service that provides confidential information, counseling and referral services for all full-time and part-time employees and their dependents who may be experiencing personal stress in their lives.
HOLIDAYS:
All full-time employees are eligible for holiday pay. We recognize 8 holidays per year.
PTO:
Employees working a minimum of forty hours per week accrue PTO hours each pay period based on regularly scheduled hours and years of service. Accrued PTO hours will be placed into a PTO bank that will accrue up to a maximum of 200 hours.
