Description

 

Life Skills Educators

Provide education, modeling, and support to participants in an effort to develop the social and life skills needed for effective self-governance. 

Duties include, but not limited to:

  • Direct care and supervision of participants
  • Support and guide participants in achieving their Individual Service Plans and/or treatment plans.
  • Provide preventive and corrective teaching opportunities
  • Communication both orally and in writing the progress of each participants with fellow staff
  • Administer medications as appropriate
  • Transport participants as needed

 

Requirements:
Requirements include academic preparation in a human services field and one year related experience.  Must be 21 years of age or older.  Valid driver’s license required if providing transportation.  Work in a 24 hour residential home where schedules include weekend, holiday, overnight, and evening shifts. 

 

Positions available in the following programs:

  • Group Care - licensed as a Group Care center for minors by the South Dakota Department of Social Services. This 32 bed facility provides short- term residential services to participants ages 9 to 17 years. Youth referred to the program are typically in crisis.
  • West Farm - Department of Social Services licensed 24-hour group care program provided collaboratively with the Department of Corrections. The program has the capacity for 27 males between the ages of 14 - 17. West Farm provides housing, food, supervision, and structure in a chemically free and safe environment.
  • Psychiatric Residential Treatment – Department of Social Services licensed 24 hour residential treatment program with capacity for 22 youth between the ages of 10 to 17 that have a qualifying mental health diagnosis.
  • Heisler Chemical Dependency Treatment – Division of Alcohol and Drug Abuse licensed facility providing comprehensive alcohol and other drug evaluations and assessments to youth and adults.
  • New Start for Adolescent and Adult Women – Division of Alcohol and Drub Abuse licensed 24-hour residential treatment programs for pregnant and parenting adolescents (age 12-18) and women (19 and above) and their children. Mothers learn to lead healthy and productive lives in a safe, structured and therapeutic environment.

 

Direct Support Professional

 

Provide supervision, education, modeling and support to participants with developmental disabilities in a residential setting. 

Duties include, but not limited to:

  • Support and guide participants in achieving personal outcome(s)
  • Provide appropriate role modeling of socialization and interactional skills.
  • Work closely with participants’ interdisciplinary team.
  • Assist participants with medical needs.
  • Communication both orally and in writing the progress of each participants with fellow staff

 

Requirements:
Degree in special education, social work or related field, minimum of one year related experience with developmental disabilities, mental health issues & emotional/behavioral disorders.  Must be 21 years of age or older.  Valid driver’s license required if providing transportation.  Work in a 24 hour residential home where schedules include weekend, holiday, overnight, and evening shifts.

  • West Oak – Division of Developmental Disabilities licensed residential programs for adolescent and adult males who have developmental disabilities and behavioral/emotional.
  • West Oak Crisis Diversion - Division of Developmental Disabilities licensed residential programs providing short-term behavioral, therapeutic and psychiatric services to people with developmental disabilities who are in crisis.
  • West Oak Intensive Treatment Services - Division of Developmental Disabilities licensed residential programs for adult males who have developmental disabilities, behavioral/emotional, psychiatric disorders and/or mental health issues.
