Description Position Summary: This is a part to full time position that requires 40 hours a week, 80 hours per pay period. Reports directly to the Health Services Administrator.  Responsible for planning, coordinating, developing and implementing a professional individual and group counseling program for assigned inmates in compliance with PNA, facility and correctional healthcare directives.

Essential Functions:

  1. Review inmate health information, conduct mental health assessment and, as necessary, make recommendations with regard to the inmate’s treatment and housing.
  2. Provide direct aid to inmates with personal needs or problems, ie: sickness, injury, family problems, emergencies, etc.
  3. Provide personal and social adjustment counseling on an individual and group basis in coordination with Administration and other facility programs.
  1. Monitor inmates’ progress.  Coordinate problem cases and point out areas in which guidance and development techniques can be improved.  Maintain documentation and records.
  2. Recommend and conduct training sessions to develop greater proficiency among facility staff in areas of guidance and social adjustment.
  3. Recommend medical or psychiatric evaluation for emotional or psychological problems.  Evaluate results and take remedial action as warranted.
  4. Maintain contact with inmate’s family, as appropriate.  Utilize community resources as needed.
  5. Promote the development of positive social skills through modeling appropriate behaviors and intervening when inappropriate behaviors are observed.  Provide regular feedback to staff regarding social skills procedures and intervention techniques.
  6. Maintain accountability of staff, inmates and property; adhere to safety practices.
  7. Provide assistance and training regarding Suicide Prevention.
  8. There may be a requirement to be on call.
  9. It is expected that the incumbent shall perform other duties as assigned within his/her capabilities as determined by PNA.
Requirements

Education and Experience Requirements:

A Master’s degree in counseling or associated field and a license or certification as required by the Texas Department of State Health Services. Two years of related experience preferred. Must hold current CPR certification.
