Description JOB PURPOSE AND REPORTING STRUCTURE:

Under the direction of the R&D Manager, the Simulation Engineer, Power Electronics provides the best possible general technical staff support for upper management and direct technical staff support for the R&D Manager and successfully completes assigned projects on time and within budgetary constraints, in accordance with company policies and procedures.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Act as the authoritative technical resource in the organization to provide the best possible general technical staff support for upper management and the R&D Manager

Generate and/or review computer simulations for MV drives, including Power device operation (IGBTs, IGCTs, SCRs and other switching devices), PWM and other modulation methods and system-level operation. Experience with Matlab/Simulink and PSPICE is required.

Generate and/or monitor system computer simulation studies and generate and review harmonic analysis reports for specific MV drive applications.

Provide direction and support for special engineering projects, to include feasibility studies, problem analysis and solution recommendations, customer technical issues requiring research or formal reply, coordination and evaluation of externally supplied engineering services, etc. Ensure completion on time and within budgetary constraints.

Provide ABB representation at technology and engineering conferences, such as IEEE, and membership within technology and engineering organizations and committees, such as IEEE and NEMA.

Author papers and presentations at technology and engineering conferences.

Provide customer presentations for sales support.

Training, mentoring and coaching other power, control and application engineers and technologists

Provide engineering and application training for internal engineering personnel, such as courses on harmonic analysis, power electronic technology and its applications, etc., as well as for customers.

As per applicable design control procedures, participate in critical project design reviews and provide technical direction and consultation support.

Maintain technical competency and remain current in changes in the industry.

Follow and comply with all safety and work rules and regulations. Maintain departmental housekeeping standards.
Requirements EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: Requires a Bachelors degree in electrical engineering, computer science or a related degree and a minimum of 5 years simulation experience.
