POSITION: Registered Nurse

FULL TIME: Days, w/on-call rotation

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:  The RN is responsible for the evaluation, supervision, and/or provision of resident’s nursing care and routine health maintenance program, as well as staff training in health and medical issues.  The specific duties may include, but are not limited to:

 

  1. Facilitating, defining, and monitoring all program nursing and health related policies and procedures as required by OMRDD regulations.
  2. Reviewing medical and health information on all residents to ensure that all health and medical concerns are being addressed.
  3. Provides first aid and nursing assessment in cases of injury and/or illness of residents and staff.
  4. Completing nursing evaluations for each resident at admission to program, yearly thereafter, as well as six month reviews.
  5. Conferring with medical personnel in developing and implementing an individual health care program/nursing care plans for each resident.
  6. Complete, maintain and review medical records of each resident to ensure they are being kept in accordance with Policy and Regulation.
  7. Assisting in developing policy and procedures pertaining to medical or health related issues.
  8. Training staff in medication administration and other health and medical skills or techniques (ex. CPR, First Aid, Fire Safety, Bloodborne Pathogens, etc.) in conjunction with other agency RN staff.
  9. Supervising staff in medication administration as the Agency Designated Supervisor.
  10. Addressing and/or reporting all observed or suspected situations which adversely impact on the health and safety of the individuals.
  11. Participating in individual planning conferences where medical and/or health related concerns are an issue.
  12. Completing self-medication assessments on all residents and supervising staff in the implementation of the self-medication goal plan.
  13. Serving as designated on-call staff, on a rotational basis, for all health or medically related concerns occurring after hours.
  14.  Investigate incidents/accidents related to medication errors and/or health concerns.
  15. Perform any resident teaching as needed.
  16. Accompany resident on medical appointments as needed.
  17. Advocating for the rights of the developmentally disabled.
  18. Maintaining a professional relationship with the medical community and other community based agencies, parents, individuals and staff.
  19. Conferring with supervisor on a regular basis.
  20. Attending any required training and/or staff development programs in accordance with State regulations and agency policies.
  21. Attend all intake meetings to complete medical histories and nursing assessments
  22. Complete annual recertification for all medication administration certified staff with assistance of other agency RN staff.
  23.  Provide assistance to LPN for specific resident health problems.
  24.  Attend monthly house meetings.
  25.  Perform monthly medication inspections at designated sites
  26.  Performing other related duties as assigned by supervisor. 
Requirements

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Possess and maintain a valid driver’s license and a good driving record acceptable to the agency’s insurance carrier.
  • Obtain and maintain OMRDD nursing certification, Instructor Certification in Diabetes trainer the trainer.
  • Must be CPR certified and first aid certified.
  • Obtain and maintain SCIP Certification.
  • Responsible for following agency safety and health policies, procedures and rules.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Must be licensed and currently registered as a RN by the New York State Department of Education.  Experience working with mentally retarded/developmentally disabled is preferred.
