Video Lab Technician

National company seeking a VIDEO LAB TECHNICIAN to join their team on a full time basis.  The ideal candidate will have a strong background in telecom.  This position is offering competitive pay and great benefits. 

Job Summary: This person will be responsible for testing and supporting various aspects of company Video products across all systems. This individual will be responsible for testing new software & firmware releases prior to commercial deployment.  He/she will be responsible to evaluate new platforms, applications & solutions such as: IPG, SDV, Tru2Way, DISC STBs, VOD, etc.  This person will be intimately involved & accountable for testing & evaluating current & future video products.  As a member of the  Video Engineering  Support team this person will work on projects that improve product performance & reliability, work closely with the systems to resolve problems, help establish best practices, and work to insure high customer satisfaction.

Essential Functions:

• Run day-to-day activities of video lab;
• Ability to create & maintain a test system environment that replicate Insight’s live systems;
• Performing necessary testing and evaluation of video equipment & applications;
• Testing & evaluation of STB software including; Operating systems, middleware, LocalSource, SourceGuide, TV Guide & VOD applications;
• Testing & evaluation of new services & technologies Insight Communication is considering using, such as: Tru2Way (OCAP), Cable Cards, EAS, IPG, etc;
• Preparing reports & keeping records as required – Must be detailed oriented.
• Create & perform test plans for testing of new Video equipment 
• Focus on system performance, error mitigation and positive customer experience;
• Help establish and maintain operating procedures and standards;
• Assist with software upgrades on digital set top converters & VOD systems.
• Monitor system usage, plan for expansions proactivley to maintain good performance;

• Work closely with all our systems & key vendors i.e. Motorola, Cisco, SeaChange, Harmonic & to roll out new services and correct identified problems.

Qualifications:

• 2 year college degree and 3-5 years of technology systems management, or equivalent mix of education and experience;
• Working knowledge of, and experience with Motorola Digital Video Platform, SeaChange VOD platform & ICOMS Billing system.
• Ability to manage multiple projects in parallel, balancing workload & priorities & ensure timely completion of projects
• Knowledge of computer hardware, software, system configurations, etc;
• Knowledge of Microsoft Operating Systems, Cisco Networking, UNIX, LINUX;
• LAN and WAN experience;
• Knowledge of CATV/Headend systems;
• Good reporting capabilities and working knowledge of Excel & Visio
• Travel when necessary
