Description Occupational Health Nurse Description:
The Occupational Health Nurse is responsible for the physical health and well-being of employees as it relates to the job. Serves as case manager for on-site injuries as well as for follow-up care. Maintains confidential employee medical records, keeps track of injuries, and prepares reports for management. Performs basic first-aid, drug screenings, and any other blood-work. Collects post offer-employment medical history reports and performs physicals. Trains employees in first-aid procedures and techniques. May also provide counseling on various health subjects and referrals to other health care professionals.

Duties:
  • Acquires general occupational and environmental health histories, referring to health care provider(s) and providing consultation as appropriate. Assesses and identifies occupational and non-occupational injuries and illnesses.
  • Counsels employees on reduction of risks associated with occupational and environmental health and safety hazards. Fosters employee responsibility for use of preventive and protective measures within the context of the organization's duty to provide a safe and healthful work environment.
  • Implements occupational and environmental health and safety education and training which incorporate knowledge of current laws and regulations governing worker, worksite and community health and safety. Collaborates with other disciplines in regard to education and training programs.
  • Uses and maintains an accurate, complete recordkeeping system while maintaining confidentiality. Maintains and safeguards associates case management records in keeping with established codes of ethics and legal or regulatory requirements to assure confidentiality of health information.
  • Assists in coordinating the provision of occupational health services and programs through participation in the formulation of goals, plans and decisions related to programs and services, and development of the budget for the program or service. Participates in health and safety committees, team meetings and other appropriate team activities.
  • Uses case finding/screening/thorough and objective assessment to identify associates who are appropriate candidates for case management, early intervention, or with gaps in the service continuum. Provides occupational and non-occupational case management consistent with statues and company benefit programs. Implements effective return to work and modified duty programs.
  • Assesses essential functions of job to facilitate hiring, proper placement, fitness for duty, reasonable accommodation and return to work.
  • Assesses, plans, implements and evaluates health promotion and disease prevention strategies and programs by providing programs and services that increase awareness of health issues and choices.
  • Identifies resources that describe relevant research findings and applies them to practice.
  • Conducts health screening and surveillance activities including occupational and environmental health histories and health assessments. Participates in the development of prevention and control strategies designed to maintain employee and organizational health and safety.
  • Collaborates with other professionals to identify potential exposures in the work environment through periodic worksite walk throughs, focused inspections, records review, job hazard analyses and incident investigations.
  • Fosters compliance with current laws and regulations governing work force and worksite safety, health and environmental issues. Identifies compliance issues and reports to and collaborates with Safety/Risk Management.
  • Requirements
  • Good knowledge of first aid procedures and techniques.
  • Basic knowledge of medical equipment such as thermometers, syringes, blood pressure units, etc.
  • Bachelors degree strongly preferred.
  • CPR certification required.
  • Must be licensed RN in state of Indiana.
  • Prefer minimum of 5 years of occupational health experience in a healthcare setting.
  • Prefer COHN/COHN-S certification.
  • Must have strong communication skills and be proficient in all MS Office products including Excel.
