Occupational Therapist Summary

A professional who provide services (evaluation, interventions, and planning) to patients/clients who have impairments, functional limitations, disabilities, or changes in physical function and health status resulting from injury, disease, or other causes. He/she interacts and practices in collaboration with a variety of professionals, including physicians, nurses, educators, social workers, physical therapists, and speech-language pathologists. The therapist will also provide appropriate education to patients and or family.

Responsibilities of Occupational Therapist Includes

• Manages patient care by first completing an evaluation, establishing a treatment plan with objective and measurable goals (outcomes), and provides direct intervention or supervision thereof .
• Performs therapeutic procedures ( exercise, neuromuscular reeducation, edema massage, orthotic fitting and training, prosthetic training, dynamic activities, compression garments).
• Utilizes exercise equipment (pulley system, UBE, computer, desentizing dowel).
• Performs modalities ( moist heat, ice, paraffin, jobst pump).
• Delegates tasks and duties as indicated.
• Participates in continuing education, departmental meetings, and in-service programs.
• Adjusts patient care schedule and prioritizes tasks as indicated.
• Performs documentation per policy and procedures ( evaluation, progress notes, discharge summary, and multi-disciplinary education and treatment plan forms).
• Performs patient and family education regarding interventions, disease/injury, safety, and wellness.
• Participates in quality improvement initiatives.
• Participates in discharge planning with the multi-disciplinary team.
• Maintains a clean and orderly work area.
• Completes required documents for supply and treatment charges.
• Participates in clinical supervision/instruction of students.
• Completes all departmental and facility policies, procedures, and directives (ie. Role delineation and scope of care).
• Performs other duties in a timely manner as assigned.

• BS/MS Degree in occupational therapy.
• Graduated from an accredited OT school.

• Preferred in OT

• Require 2 years with direct hand therapy treatment of hand and UE.
• Must demonstrate advanced assessment and treatment for traumatic and hand injuries.
• Must demonstrate proficiency in fabricating complex static and dynamic splints.

• Kentucky state board of occupational therapy and national registration.

• Therapist must be willing to sit for the certified hand therapist examination.
