Customs and Compliance Specialist
Warrior Sports, recognized as one of the sporting goods industry's premier manufacturers of performance-oriented products is seeking a Customs and Compliance Specialist in our Warren, MI corporate headquarters.

The Customs and Compliance Specialist is responsible and accountable for all aspects of Customs and Compliance matters as they pertain to the Import and Exports transactions of Warrior Sports Product Lines.
PRINCIPLE RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Works closely with Warrior’s appointed Custom Broker.
- Classify all products imported into the U.S. using the Harmonized Tariff. Work with PD, PM, Purchasing and Sourcing to obtain product information, product samples, lab tests to accurately classify product.
- Work with PD/PM teams to identify tariff engineering opportunities for duty savings.
- Maintain Product Dictionary and ensure all internal and external stakeholders receive regular updates.
- Establish metrics, such as factory shipment logs, to measure compliance offenders. Use these metrics to offer corrective actions and to measure compliance rates with the ultimate goal of 95%+ compliance.
- Monitors quota and anti-dumping regulations and establishes procedures to ensure compliance of same.
- Auditing of Customs entries as filed by Warrior’s appointed Custom Brokers. Provides solution to ensure required documentation and record keeping practices are compliant with CBSA regulations.
- Maintains proper records of all NAFTA Certificates as required by CBSA.
- Initiates and coordinates the filing of eligible duty drawback claims.
- Works closely with the Operations Team at Warrior to recommend areas of improvements where necessary as they pertain to changes in brokerage, logistics and classification processes
- Works with CBSA/DFAIT for any special ruling and/or advisory requests.
- Performs other related duties as assigned or as responsibilities dictate
- Strong emphasis in accurate HS product classification for duty purposes and in eliminating the risk of penalties
- Provides leadership and support in the event of scheduled audits by CBSA
Requirements
- Must be a Certified Custom Specialist with valid CCS membership status.
- Minimum two years college degree or equivalent; University degree an asset
- Minimum of 5 years experience within an import/export environment in a Customs & Compliance capacity.
- Traffic/Logistics experience considered an asset.
- Sound knowledge of the CBSA regulations & practical HS classification experience.
- Must be familiar with the NAFTA rulings & processes.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office, spreadsheet and database packages.
- Strong communication, problem solving and organizational skills.
- Initiative, attention to detail, independent decision making ability and effective communication skills are necessary. Ability to create and use metrics to measure and improve compliance, as well as the talent to recognize process flaws that impact the classification process and compliance, recommend and implement improvements, are required.
