Description Customer Service Represenatative / Cashier

Headquartered in Louisville, KY, Thorntons Inc. operates over 150 convenience stores in six states, serving major communities such as Louisville, Chicago, Indianapolis, Evansville, IN, Cincinnati, Columbus,Nashville TN and New Haven, CT.

We are currently accepting applications from qualified applicants for the position of cashier at our new store opening @ 101 S. Mattis in Champaign, IL! As a Customer Service Representative, you’ll be primarily involved in providing the most courteous and prompt customer service to each and every person that walks through the door as well as executing or 5 Operational Priorities.

Requirements

Excellent customer service skills are a must. 

Prior experience in a retail environment is a plus.

 

General Functions & Responsibilities

Observes shift operating hours at all times, as assigned by the managers.

Performs specific tasks as assigned by the managers.

Adheres to all city, county, and state alcohol and tobacco and all other applicable laws and regulations..

Gives all customers prompt and courteous service.

Follows the work schedule as posted, unless a change in schedule is arranged with general retail sales manager.

Stays familiar with the company operations and procedures.

Ensures the general retail sales manager is made aware of all sales, cash, or operating discrepancies.

Operates each shift within company guidelines to achieve sales and profit.

Knowledge and Skill Requirements

Be able to speak, read, understand, and write the English language including the ability to hear the spoken word.

Be able to perform arithmetical calculations in order to make change, complete shift reports, and account for numbers of a variety of products during vendor check-in.

Have sufficient visual acuity to check identification and process money orders.

Be able to read and understand instructions for operation of electronic cash registers and other equipment.

Be able to lift up to 50 pounds, carrying cases of milk cartons and soft drinks, beer and juice containers, etc., at least once per shift.

Be able to stock shelves and coolers.

Be able to react to a fire by lifting the fire extinguisher weighing 20 pounds and moving it to the fire area.

Be able to tolerate exposure to gasoline fumes and cleaning products.

Be able to climb a ladder to clean windows, stock shelves and cooler, and make price changes.

Be able to read electronic fuel reports generated by monitoring equipment in the store.

Be able to sweep and mop floors, dust shelves, and lift and carry out trash containers and place in an outside bin.

Be able to clean the parking lot and grounds surrounding the convenience store.

Be able to enter and work in a cooler at a temperature of 40 degrees up to 30 minutes at a time.

Be able to attend work each and every scheduled day and work your full shift.

Job requires long periods of standing including, but not limited to, an 8 hour shift.
