Description

Responsible for all legal affairs for Ilitch Holdings, Inc. (IHI) and coordinates legal affairs at other Ilitch owned companies (IOCs).

 

Essential Job Functions Include but are not limited to:

  

  • Directly responsible for performing the company’s and ownership’s most sensitive and complex legal affairs.
  • Oversees all company litigation at Ilitch Holdings, Inc. and coordinates and consults on litigation at other Ilitch owned companies.
  • Advises the management team of IHI and other IOCs on a wide range of legal issues affecting the business.
  • Develops preventive law strategies and reviews corporate policy and compliance programs to help minimize litigation, third party disputes and other potential project development and implementation problems.
  • Maintains a comprehensive knowledge of pertinent federal and state laws, regulations, rulings, interpretations and court decisions as they affect the businesses of various Ilitch owned companies
  • Reviews all outside legal fees and interfaces with other IOCs on same.
  • Researches, analyzes, and applies legal principles, facts, and precedents to legal issues.
  • Interfaces with all legal departments and personnel at IOCs on a continuous basis

 

 

 

Requirements

 

  • Minimum of 20 years of broad and extensive experience as a practicing attorney or in a corporate related position, including at least three years of progressively responsible experience.
  • Knowledge of the principles and practices of civil, constitutional, contract, tort, property, employment, environmental, municipal, and administrative law.
  • Litigation and arbitration procedures and rules of evidence pertaining to state and federal court.
  • Principles, methods, and practices of legal research.
  • Experience with corporate governance.
  • Juris Doctorate Degree  from an accredited school of law
  • An active membership in the Michigan State Bar
