Assignment Capsule
As an actuary you will: quantify risk and uncertainty, determining price levels and product portfolios consistent with business-wide objectives, performing proper valuations of liabilities, and ensuring actuarial compliance as required by federal law and standards of practice.

  • Create, evaluate, test and support statistical, actuarial and data model designs for root cause analyses that can be used to increase business intelligence and domain expertise
  • Conduct root cause analyses, using your results to create recommendations for trend mitigation
  • Develop a library of metrics, methods, reports, results and recommendations
  • Act as a key resource and liaison to other functional areas of Humana's business, building productive cross-functional relationships

Role Essentials
  • Bachelor's Degree in Applied Mathematics, Statistics, or a related field
  • Credit for Society of Actuary exams in the area of Actuarial Modeling
  • Experience in the health solution industry, with demonstrated experience in the areas of pricing, product development, pharmacy management and benefits design, risk adjustment, disease/condition management, outcomes analysis, financial recoveries, and fraud and abuse
  • Proficiency in SAS-based programming
  • Working knowledge of relational databases, including Oracle, Access and My SQL, and SQL/PL programming skills


Role Desirables
  • Master's Degree in Applied Mathematics, Statistics, or a related field
  • Experience with SPSS, Matlab, C/C++, Java and Visual Basic


Reporting Relationships
  • You will report to an Actuarial Director. This area is under the leadership of a Director, a SVP & Chief Financial Officer.
