We currently have an opening for a Consultant position to join our OneBeacon Professional Insurance team in Chicago, IL. This position is responsible for resolving complex, highly specialized assigned Lawyers Professional Liability claims through investigation, evaluation and disposition. Within company guidelines, makes appropriate recommendations to management on coverage and settlement. Reviews and processes highly complex large loss claims that generally settle over $200,000.
Responsibilities:
1. Makes timely and appropriate contacts and completes appropriate level of investigation to make determination of coverage, liability and damages.
2. Determines exposure, establishes adequate reserves and makes timely adjustments as required.
3. Assigns and directs activities of internal and external resources as required; including independent adjusters, appraisers and attorneys. Identifies questionable claims and consults with SIU for further direction as appropriate.
4. Determines settlement value of the loss and negotiates proper settlement of claims within authority. Provides recommendations for settlement and disposition of claims exceeding authority level.
5. Documents clearly and concisely all relevant activity on assigned files and makes recommendations for additional activity as appropriate.
6. Anticipates and meets all customer needs (internal and external).
7. May coach or train less experienced claim representatives.
Requirements
Requirements:
Strong claims technical knowledge, and legal climate background in local market is essential. Often possesses strong knowledge of highly specialized claim types. Strong analytical and negotiation skills. Must have the ability to interact with customers. Demonstrated proficiency with computer software including current Windows Operating System, Microsoft Office, and Microsoft Outlook. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Must maintain a high level of accuracy, and provide follow-through on projects. Requires the ability to maintain confidential information and work independently and as a member of a team.
Education and Experience:
Bachelor's degree required. Law degree preferred. 3-5 years professional liability claims experience.
