Assess project viability and recommends strategies and tactics to satisfy customer needs. Collaborate with company customers, staff, IT colleagues and other stakeholders to identify customer requirements, assess impacts to other data and systems, consider available technologies, compare costs and benefits and recommend solutions. Work with business entities, vendors and service providers in implementing technical solutions for business initiatives. Participate in the departmental administrative functions. Assist, as needed, in the development of the strategic technical architecture plans in partnership with the business or staff department. Maintain high quality, architecturally compliant product delivery systems. Ensure technical strategies remain in concert with Group technology architecture and philosophy. Manage development of application software to meet current requirements and strategic direction of businesses and the Group. Lead global joint development project efforts. Define and delivers systems development projects ensuring effective use of resources. Foster and maintains vendor relationships. Recommend the use of outside contract resources and administers selected contracts to ensure performance. Keep informed on technical and professional developments affecting area of responsibility and advises department and division management on new developments. Maintain a thorough knowledge of businesses supported; provides guidance in the use of technology to meet short and long term requirements. Build strong partnerships and consults with internal customers to add value and extend the traditional model of services and to ensure business needs are met. Raise the overall corporate perception of the technology services organization through efforts that increase key focal point ratings supplied by business partners. Serve as technical liaison to managers and businesses supported. Ensure projects and operating environments address requirements, conform to specifications, are secure and meet quality, time, and budget objectives. Manage overseas development staff for outsourced needs. Lead and develop an effective team through communication, performance management, development plans and reward/recognition practices. Cultivate an environment that supports diversity and reflects the HSBC brand.  Oversee assigned personnel and functions within the Business Systems department including the functions of applications development, business analysis, research and development, and systems integration for business systems. Manage projects though implementation; ensures deliverables achieve user requirements, comply with technical standards, are secure, and introduce quality solutions. Oversee all aspects of systems analysis, design, development, installation, maintenance and enhancement for mission-critical application systems for assigned area of responsibility. Ensure systems-related problems and challenges are addressed, root causes identified and corrective measures are implemented. Assist the administration of department by preparing unit plans and budgets, as necessary, for staff in assigned area of responsibility for departmental and divisional approval. Manage overseas development staff for outsourced needs. Complete other responsibilities, as assigned. Recommend and administers policies, procedures and standards within assigned area. Assure compliance with Corporate and Group objectives, standards, policies and procedures, regulatory requirements, technical architecture, and business objectives. Keep unit personnel informed on matters affecting areas of responsibility. Manages applications support for a business area or specific technology. Ensure compliance, operational risk controls in accordance with HSBC or regulatory standards and policies; and optimize relations with regulators by addressing any issues. Promote an environment that supports diversity and reflects the HSBC brand. Maintain HSBC internal control standards, including timely implementation of internal and external audit points together with any issues raised by external regulators.
Requirements
  • A Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience with major or minor in computer science or related field
  • Master’s degree preferred
  • A minimum of twelve to fifteen years progressive experience in applications systems, including five years in management
  • Demonstrate ability to lead, motivate, and develop personnel and a working knowledge of information systems technology
  • In-depth understanding of businesses supported
  • Strong managerial, planning, technical and communication skills
  • Strong people and team management skills particularly with project and cross functional teams
  • The ability to establish strategic technical direction, translate concepts into actionable implementation plans, and identify technologies that improve productivity
