Job Description
The Rehabilitation Nurse Educator plans, develops and coordinates continuing clinical in-service education programs within the hospital for nursing staff. The Educator works with nursing leadership and rehabilitation nursing staff to assess current educational needs and develops a plan to satisfy those needs. The overall education plan is built in consideration of state and federal education requirements for healthcare providers. The Educator creates a monthly education calendar/program either conducting in-services or finding presenters to conduct in-services for staff. This position is also involved in the orientation of new staff, promotion of the rehabilitation nursing specialty and coordinates CPR certification for nursing staff, as needed. This position functions with limited supervision and must be able to work effectively across all hospitals departments. Additionally, the Nurse Educator is expected to stay current on the latest care techniques within their own educational area of expertise, lead Functional Independance Measure (FIM) nursing education and will serve as the point-person for local nursing schools that have classes of students completing a clinical rotation at the hospital.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS
Registered Nurse with active TN Licensce
Crtification in BLS required
Certification in Rehabiltation Nursing required
Total Education, Vocational Training and Experience:
Bachelor's Degree in Nursing required, MSN preferred
Previous experience in educator role required
Proficiency in Microsoft office, PowerPoint, Webnair, HealthStream
Machines, Equipment Used:
General office equipment such as telephone, copy machine, fax machine, calculator, computer.
Physical Requirements:
Good visual acuity and ability to communicate
Ability to safely lift, lower, push, pull, and retrieve objects weighing a minimum of 30 pounds
Skills and Abilities:
Ability to speak, read, write and comprehend English.
Ability to coordinate, analyze, observe, make decisions and meet deadlines in a detail-oriented manner
Ability to communicate effectively in both writing and verbal arenas as well as via email.
Ability to work independently without supervision.
Ability to present in-services to staff using appropriate technological and other tools.
Environmental Conditions:
Indoor, temperature controlled, smoke-free environment. Occasional outdoor exposure
Exposure or potential exposure to blood and body fluids may be required.
Handicapped accessibility.
May work under stressful circumstances at times.
Proficiency or Productivity Standards:
May be required to work weekdays and/or weekends, evenings and or night shifts if needed to meet deadlines.
May be required to work on religious and/or legal holidays on scheduled days/shifts.
Will be required to work as necessary during disaster situations, i.e. before, during or after a disaster.
May be required to stay after workday to assist after a disaster situation until relief arrives.
Regular attendance and reporting on time to work is a requirement of position.
