BRIEF JOB DESCRIPTION
Able to monitor and troubleshoot the Deltacom fiber optic transport network utilizing NetCool and various network management systems like Preside, Nortel Optical Nodes, Infinera, Cisco CTM, Adtran EMS, Copperview, Jetvision Client, NMC-SMX Client and Ericsson IMA. Responds to all network facilities troubles (DS3/Ocx) associated with the transport network. Responds to all troubles associated with DAC?s such as Alcatel, Tadiran, and Tellabs, and miscellaneous multiplexing equipment. Assists in monitoring and troubleshooting various environmental and site alarms. Create Remedy trouble tickets and dispatch field/switch technicians as appropriate. Interfaces effectively with customers, internal company departments, other telecommunications providers, and vendors. Performs searches in internal company databases for circuit order detail, customer information, outage notifications, POP/Switch site information, escalations, and other tasks as required. Provide second level support to operations technicians on all Deltacom transport network issues.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE OR OTHER REQUIREMENTS NEEDED
High school diploma or GED required. Some college coursework desired. Minimum of three years related experience and/or specialized training in SONET and general telecommunications networks preferred. Must have the ability to sit for extended periods of time while monitoring network systems. Must have good verbal communications skills to interface with customers and internal personnel. Must have ability to read, analyze and interpret general telecommunications information, technical procedures and/or company practices. Ability to work shift-work as needed and where needed for weekday and weekend duties. Must show ability to work with minimum supervision in a stressful environment.

REASONING ABILITY
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form. Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
