Description POSITION SUMMARY (includes, but is not limited to):Under the general supervision of the director of laboratory services or designee, performs laboratory tests demonstrating understanding of normal ranges due to sex and/or age from neonatal through geriatric population groups.  Performs automated, semi-automated and manual procedures in the fields of bacteriology, parisitology, hematology, serology, chemistry, urinalysis, immunology, and immunohematology according to established procedures and policies.  Reports results according to established professional standards, following interpretation, verification and validation of procedures.  Works actively and cooperative with nursing and other hospital staff to ensure timely patient care.

Requirements Education:Bachelor's degree in Medical Technology from an accredited college or university and successful score on a national examination for certification approved by the State Board; or completion of three years of academic study with a minimum of 90 semester hours at an accredited college or university in a curriculum  involving biological or physical science and at least 12 months training at a school of medical technology approved by a national accrediting agency and pass a national examination for certification approved by the State Board; or a Bachelor's degree in one of the chemical, physical or biological sciences at an accredited college or university, have at least one year of additional full time experience or training in the specialty or subspecialty in which he/she performs tests and pass a national examination for certification approved by the State Board; or pass the examination for clinical laboratory technologists  given by the Department of Health and Human Services License:ASCP certification or equivalent and current State license (or within six months of hire date as per State regulations) as a General Supervisor is preferred, Clinical Laboratory Technologist is required.  Per Diem staff are required to have a Clinical Laboratory Technologist license Experience:Two years experience as a medical technologist in a large clinical laboratory.  Generalist experience in all areas of the laboratory including blood bank is preferred. Special Skills:Performs all duties and responsibilities according to the customer service philosophy of MountainView Hospital, including conveying courtesy, respect, enthusiasm and positive attitudes in work situations, with patients, peers, medical staff and visitors; assist other hospital staff in completion of needed tasks, makes interdepartmental service the number one priority. Determines results in analysis of biological specimens. Evaluates abnormal test results and/or testing conditions and initiates corrective action and follow up. Compiles test results, records results and enters data into the hospital computer system, Performs duties such that all established procedures, testing schedules and policies are followed.  Performs phlebotomy as needed. Advises and assists laboratory staff and patient care area staff in completion or execution of laboratory related tasks, assignments and procedures.  Develops proficiency in new procedures. Participates in training and in-service education programs.  Prepares intralab programs when requested.  Reviews, evaluates and documents quality control data. Collects and collates laboratory quality assurance data and completes records, reports and inventory as assigned.  Ensures that proficiency testing is performed, documented and reported according to procedures.  Assists in data collection for analysis of new test methods. Performs clerical and specimen processing functions. Performs related tasks and duties as requested.
