Description UBS is a client-driven global financial services firm. Corporate Center partners with the business divisions to ensure that the firm operates as an effective and integrated whole with a common vision and set of values.DescriptionThe Senior Developer/Analyst will work on a variety of systems that constitute the platforms within Equity Finance IT. Over the next 2-3 years, we will be evolving these platforms to handle the increasing volume and complexity of the business. A user base of several hundred is spread across the UK, Switzerland, US and Asia.The Securities Lending platform has evolved over the years through development, acquisition and mergers. There is redundancy of function, poor code, and poor architecture. Over the coming years we are looking to:

Deconstruct existing systems

Define appropriate functions

Optimize system structure

Build a reliable, scalable approach to structuring our systems

Emphasize real-time, online processing

Develop exception based processing

Build a front to back Securities Lending platform that facilitates order entry, borrow/loan entry, contract life cycle processing, reconciliation, settlement, financial risk management/reporting, counterparty interaction and end customer interaction.We are looking for a candidate with experience in front end systems, N tier architecture, inter-process communication, middleware and exception based processing as well as business process improvement.Requirements

Minimum of 5 years of experience working with all aspects of java and related technologies

Minimum of 3 years experience with source code control tools (specifically Subversion)

Minimum of 3 years of experience with programming distributed systems

Minimum of 3 years experience with multi-threaded applications

Minimum of 3 years experience programming of database services (specifically Oracle/Sybase)

Minimum of 5 years experience working in unix environment (specifically linux)

Minimum of 3 years experience with communication technologies(tcp/ip, sockets, jms, http)Preferred Qualifications

Significant experience working with Microsoft technologies, C#, Windows server environment

Knowledge of relevant 3rd party technologies

Diligent use of unit and acceptance testing

Working with client/server environments

Accurately and pragmatically estimate development effort required

Problem solving in both the development and production environments

Must be able to interact with other developers and grow to be a potential manager. This interaction includes but is not limited to mentoring and evangelizing technologies that just make sense.

The candidate is expected to hit the ground running with limited guidance.

Candidate should have infectious energy inspiring others to deliver at a high-level.

Candidate is expected to operate efficiently in a team context.

Candidate should be a fast learner. This includes new technologies and any domain specific terminology. Should be able to understand the function and behaviour of the system by just reading the code.

The candidate should have a test-first philosophy. No fix or enhancement will be delivered without appropriate automated testing. Testing is essential as the platform software is deployed globally.

The candidate should be able to do more with less. Should be able to see where 3rd party technologies can be applied instead of creating proprietary software. Can breakdown the solution into pieces where leveraging these types of technologies is possible.

The candidate must apply critical thinking to all proposed problems and have a keen aptitude for technology.
