Production Supervisor

Description POSITION SUMMARY:

Under the supervision of the Plant Operation Manager or Production Manager - and in accordance with directives, policies, and procedures, supervises and coordinate production operations in the department.

CORE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Exercises direct supervision over departmental supervisors with respect to safety, quality, production, cost, and meeting production schedules.

2. Plans, organizes, and assigns work in accordance with production schedules and utilizes employees and equipment to the best advantage.

3. Assigns employees to jobs, instructs them in proper performance of work, familiarizes them with company rules and regulations.

4. Supervises and checks setups and operations. Responsible for products meeting quality requirements, analyzes machine problems and expedites corrective measures.

5. Anticipates production problems and where feasible devises and implements procedures to keep time loss and schedule interruption at a minimum.

6. Inspects machines and equipment and polices use of safety devices, departmental housekeeping and maintains constant alert for hazardous conditions.

7. Maintains conformance with work rules and regulations, issues warnings for violations and administers approved disciplinary measures.

8. Maintains and trains an adequate work force consistent with planning requirements and work levels.

9. Participates in job and wage administration procedures, which includes performance reviews and recommendations for job changes.

10. Prepares and submits operating budget, controls department to operate within approved budget.

11. Assists with monthly and yearly inventory tabulations of departmental materials.

12. Participates in and coordinates programs for methods improvements, work simplification, cost reduction, communications, training, etc.

13. Completes departmental paperwork relating to production activities as necessary.

14. Is responsible for proper application of established department employee relations, policies, wage and salary adjustments, administration policies, and safety and health regulations.

15. Is responsible for quality and safety of own work and compliance of all company procedures and policies.

SPECIAL EQUIPMENT OR OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

Knowledgeable in the operation and maintenance of all manufacturing equipment in the department.

Production Manager or Plant Superintendent

EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE:

Required: High school education plus courses in administration and supervisory training. Approximately four years experience is required, which includes time spent on setup and production leadership.

Any deviations from the above requirements (e.g. substituting more work experience for required education) will be evaluated and approved by the Vice President - Manufacturing Operations.

Preferred: Associate's degree in industrial management and four years experience in manufacturing, including time spent on setup and production leadership.
