Scope of Position: The role of the System Performance Engineer (SPE) is to maximize system performance by proactively and reactively identifying and resolving system performance-affecting issues. The SPE will proactively help system performance by coordinating or completing channel plans for their assigned systems and by suggesting hand-off/cell balancing parameters for new cell sites. The SPE will work with field personnel on existing system problems such as interference, poor cell site performance, antenna system redesign, traffic/VCH capacity, and hand-off/cell balancing. The SPE will analyze all data collected from drive test instruments, operating measurements (OM's) and logs collected from switch. Specific Responsibilities: - Coordinate frequency plans for assigned systems working with RF engineers, Network Operation Managers (NOM's), and neighboring carriers. Using RF engineering tools the SPE, will work with RF engineers on interference studies on all proposed frequency plans. The SPE will review all coordination whether in-house or from neighboring markets. - Work with RF engineers and NOM's to create & provide new and existing analog and digital cell site translations and perform system related audits. - Assist Marketing and Sales Engineering with customer specific engineering applications such as building penetration needs, specialized cell site installations and designs, and answering customer's technical inquiries. - Antenna system redesign - Using drive test data, switch logs and OM's and input from RF engineers and field personnel, look at ways to improve existing coverage and overlap via antenna system redesigns. - Analyze new and existing cell site performance with RF Engineers, NOM and to the Regional Performance Manager (RPM) - Make recommendations to improve dropped calls, dropped handoffs and blocking and reduce interference. - Coordinate with RPM and NOM's to obtain drive test data from selected areas using Real-time System Analysis Tools or other test equipment. - Analyze data for hand-off, coverage or interference problems. - Work with NTI or other vendors, and other departments to create test plans if required for evaluation and implementation of new software releases as they pertain to system performance. - Travel required as needed.
