Description
Responsible for day-to-day management of the HIM Operations coders, including recruiting, hiring, training, mentoring and performance management. Manages the HIM Operations Coding quality monitoring plan, and assures department targets are met. Responsible for assuring that coding practices in the unit meet all correct coding and compliance standards.
Requirements
Experience Requirements Minimum: 5 years management of production coding in a healthcare setting, including personnel management, quality and production management, and compliance responsibilities.
Preferred: 10 or more years Same as minimum, with dual focus on both facility and professional coding.
Knowledge Requirements Minimum: Advanced ICD-9, CPT and HCPCS coding knowledge; healthcare financing and compliance; HCC's, MS-DRG's and APC's; medical terminology, medical science; Excel, Word, Powerpoint; skill using one or more encoders.
Preferred: Advanced Same as minimum, with in-depth knowledge of both facility and professional services coding.
Education Requirements Minimum: Associates Degree/College Diploma Healthcare related discipline, with focus on coding and health information management. Coursework in ICD-9 and CPT coding, medical science, disease process, medical terminology, healthcare finance.
Preferred: Bachelors Degree B.S. in Health Information Management preferred
Certification Requirements Minimum: At time of hire RHIA, RHIT, CCS-P, CCS, CPC or CPC-H (any one)
Preferred: At time of hire Either RHIA or RHIT, plus any one of the following: CCS-P, CCS, CPC or CPC-H.
