Software Engineer - Motor Control Software Design
Are you a Staff Engineer with at least 12 years Embedded Software design experience? If so... read on!
We are seeking a Staff Engineer - Motor Control Software Design to design new and existing embedded motor control software for PMAC, BLDC, Induction, and SR motors for robust on/off road hybrid electric vehicles and harsh environments.
What you need for this position:
Education
- Four year degree in Electrical or Computer Engineering or equivalent experience.
Required Skills and Experience
- 12+ years of experience in firmware (Embedded Software) development using assembly, C, or C++, microcontrollers (including complex ARM based microcontrollers), DSPs or PSoCs.
- 10+ years of experience with PMAC, BLDC, Induction, and SR motor control software development.
- 5+ years of experience with Matlab/Simulink or similar simulation software.
- Expert knowledge of microcontroller operation and memory organization.
- Experience with microcontroller peripherals and systems (e.g. PWM outputs, boot loaders, A/D converters, watchdog timers, interrupt and trap functions, serial and parallel interfaces, etc.).
- Thorough understanding of operation and use of compilers, linkers and locators.
- Experience with development and debugging tools (e.g. source level debuggers, oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, multi-meters, etc.).
- Experience with all phases of product development.
Desired Skills and Experience
- Experience with CMM or other mature development models.
- Experience with auto-code generation from simulation and modeling tools, (e.g. - MATLAB, Simulink, Real-Time Workshop, etc.).
- Experience with communication protocols (e.g. J1939, ISO11783, TCP/IP, etc.).
- Experience with various position sensors and sensorless control.
- Experience with writing Simulink S-Functions.
- Experience with control systems (e.g. electro-hydraulic or electro-mechanical control systems).
- Experience with hybrid electric systems.
- Experience with standards such as Safety Integrity Level (SIL), DO-178B.
- Distinguished publications, patents, awards or recognitions.
What you will be doing:
- Provide technical leadership and direction to create and review innovative software architectures and designs (including Modeling and Simulation) for challenging problems.
- Perform advanced analysis and make recommendations and design decisions based on results.
- Have expert knowledge in implementing code using advanced programming techniques, tool chain set-up, issues involving multiple code modules, code bases, and/or multiple developers.
- Perform and/or coordinate detailed unit, integration, and systems verification and validation testing using software tools including emulators, debuggers, hardware in the loop and simulations.
- Employ advanced troubleshooting strategies; quickly determine root cause with limited support from others and provide support in troubleshooting.
- Work closely with other project team members as needed to ensure the final combined product has compatible software, electronic hardware, and mechanical hardware which functions properly together and performs at levels specified in the product specifications.
- Travel as needed to accomplish the tasks required of this position, including meet with customers to generate and/or revise concepts and product requirements, install and test prototypes, and troubleshoot and correct improper operation of products designed.
