Technical Writer
Technical Training Development
Our client is releasing a new version of its browser-based collaboration and document-management platform and needs training courses developed that demonstrate how to use it. In this role, the Technical Writer will write a course for the new product, as well as, a script and create three to ten course videos. They will narrate and capture the videos using Camtasia Studio. The courses will be published to the company's online Web Services site.
Position Overview:
- Research: read specs, experiment with product, troubleshoot features, and schedule meetings with PMs, Testers and other Writers.
- Outline: based on the above research, write a course outline.
- Site setup: create a sample site that can be used for demonstrating the features.
- Drafting: draft the script for the course.
- Rough shoot: capture rough videos that demonstrate the use of the features.
- Edit: have videos reviewed and edited.
- Shoot final videos.
- Prep for publishing: import videos and scripts into publishing tool, conduct quality assurance, and publish to the site.
Other Tasks include:
- Attend team meetings and brainstorming sessions as needed.
- Provide a weekly status report, including progress or lack of progress.
- Research new features and update Wiki topics as directed.
- Any other tasks assigned by Manager.
This is an estimated 3+ month contract position through Volt Technical & Creative Communication - a division of a Fortune 1000 publicly traded Staffing Industry Leader, which is headquartered in Bothell, Washington. Requirements
Required Skills for this Technical Writer position includes the following:
- Experience narrating and capturing video using Camtasia Studio.
- Experience working with SharePoint sites: working with document libraries, editing site pages, creating lists and libraries, creating views, working with permissions, etc.
- Ability to learn new technology quickly.
- Bachelor's degree in Technical Communications, Journalism, English or related field preferred. Work related experience may substitute for degree.
- Demonstrated ability to combine technical expertise with technical communication skills.
- Ability to work under deadline pressure.
- Able to work independently and as part of a team.
